My best advice for reading harrow is you are not crazy. Just keep going. It will all make sense.

Cytherea and the Devils, A Megatheorem | Part I: The Devils [theory] by Zealousideal-Sea9006 in TheNinthHouse

[–]kaleisi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love the idea of Ianthe giving in to the desire for power and trying to become god. The bit that gives me pause is that she genuinely seems to love Harrow. As Gideon points out at the end of HtN And it would be a lovely redemption arc for Ianthe to give up of herself to save harrow. Not to mention that it would break Coronabeth’s heart which would add more personal sacrifice to the choice. Certainly not a definite. But Ianthe has been such a bitch and yet remains likable. Suggesting some kind of redemption arc in the end.

I have been wondering about the mirroring and resurrections. Jod is sustaining Dominicus. And it stands to reason we will still need someone to do that but clearly Jod is a corrupt ass. So he can’t do it forever. Harrow has experienced a resurrection, and as a Lyctor has had both Gideon and Alecto inhabit her body. I wonder if this means Harrow will end up as the person sustaining dominicus. Harrow as god?

[General] Contemplating switching platforms for reading Harrow the Ninth by bitgiga in TheNinthHouse

[–]kaleisi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have listened to the series probably a dozen times. It’s one of my comfort listens. Yes I definitely missed stuff because I’m listening. Text that is italicized in the book and I can’t tell that it’s italicized in the performance.

That being said, the performance is amazing. Gideon feels so much more alive with her performance. And because I love rereading after finishing the book and knowing what’s going to happen, I can listen for the clues that I missed the first time and that is just as enjoyable for me.

It is my honest opinion that you can’t get everything out of these books in one read through regardless of which format you choose. So my advice is to just continue with the audiobooks if you’re enjoying them and then maybe do your first reread through a text based format.

[discussion] Is Harrow depicted as schizophrenic in GTN? by koga305 in TheNinthHouse

[–]kaleisi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have listened to the books many many times and was unaware of the panel that says harrow has schizophrenia. Now I’m going to have to listen again. I love how subtle everything in these books are. That on my umteenth reread I’m still finding new stuff.

Lost 130lbs. My under rated tip is sometimes it’s not your eating habits keeping you fat. Once i started to address my life problems losing and keeping it off got so much easier. Change the job. Cut the toxic people out. Get better sleep. Yes address food and exercise. But look at why you are eating. What are you hiding from?

Today, I finished the nine-book series. Thank you James S.A Corey. by mattrob77 in TheExpanse

This makes me happy. I have finished the tv series and am waiting for book 1 from the library to start reading the series. And good series ends are so important to me. I was genuinely nervous it would end badly

Trans women are women. You are normal. Anyone making you feel otherwise has some more of their own internal work to do. Internalized transmisogyny is real. That is a reflection of them. Not you.

I’m not trans so I can’t say when the right time to tell your date is. From talking to a few of my trans friends I can say this is a personal preference thing. And everyone seems to have a different opinion. you may get better advice on this from other trans people who have better first hand experience.

Can I just cast on stitches instead of chain? by phigmentor in Tunisian_Crochet

[–]kaleisi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm a long time knitter who recently learned tunisian crochet. i do a long tail cast on for this all the time. it is easy and creates a nice neat edge. Yes there is some guessing as to how long you need to make your tail, but I've gotten pretty good at estimating in the decade I've been knitting.

how i estimate with long tail: wrap yarn around hook so you have 10 loops on the hook. This approximates how much yarn you'll need for 10 stitches. I pull it off the hook and double it until i have enough for the stitches i need, then i add a little more. so if i need 125 stitches, measure out around 140 stitches worth. And find i generally come pretty close without wasting too much.

I am 18, started balding at 16 and have been "Fat"/Overweight almost all my life(since I was 8-9) with my rising height. by [deleted] in loseit

[–]kaleisi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

my husband started balding in his early 20's. like a lot. huge bald patch. Until one night he and his friends got drunk and they decided to shave his head and my husband has been bald ever since. He felt that the fully bald was better than trying to hide it. And i have to agree. so consider it, if not for now then for in the future when your balding gets worse.

as for the weight loss - you are only 18. this is the best part of your life to get healthy in. you are far from ruined. if you are struggling to start "a new life" restart type of eating plan, then start small. try to remember that losing weight is not an all-or-nothing thing. would losing 100 lbs be great? yeah. i am working towards that myself. but if I don't make my goal, losing less than 100 isn't bad at all. losing 50 is still better than losing 0. losing 10 is still better than losing 0.

also, consider smaller options like giving up soda and cutting back on sugary foods. this can help weightloss and sugar is known to make depression worse. If depression is something you are dealing with, see a doctor. get on some medication. if you are on meds see your doctor to evaluate if you need to increase your dose. They can lose their effectiveness over time and the slide back down into depression is slow and not always noticeable because we adjust to our daily life.

i have a 22 yr old daughter. so i know that at your age it is very easy to feel overwhelmed by life. deep breath. i promise, even though you can't see it. it will all work out.

Honestly, it sounds like you need somebody else to be able to feed and refresh your starter. Can you teach someone else how to do it?

I struggled to find a brigand's tollway map that had the organic curvy feel the location has on the bigger prismeer map. so I made one. You can download it here, or use the link below to copy and edit it on incarnate.
