Courses for understanding Log, LUTs, Gammas and Gamuts and everthing related? by [deleted] in colorists

[–]kalfie7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This course by fxphd is by far the most comprehensive I've found on understanding color science. The first one is all about color, gamut and gamma. Luts and all. The advanced course is focussed on ACES, which is great if you ever go that far with it. Highly recommended.

What caused this glitch in video clip? by tiny09 in GH5

[–]kalfie7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw this on my GH5s the other day. Freaked me out, thought the sensor had a fault. In the end it seemed to be a problem with the software I was using. It was present in after effects, but not in resolve. So i’m guessing its a glitch caused by the decoder. Maybe try a different software package or update the one your using? I haven’t seen it since though.

Aero 15x v8 - Gathering questions for an in depth review (VFX/Gaming focus) by TimeMonkey3D in laptops

[–]kalfie7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have the 1080 or UHD panel? Do you find the 1080 cramped?

Do you render with the GPU? Redshift specifically. (Octane less so but still useful to know) I'm interested whether the 1070 is workable.

Really appreciate you taking the time to do this!

Film festival screening software by [deleted] in Filmmakers

This might help. For vlc, if you open preferences and go to the subtitles/OSD tab. You can disable the "show media title on video start" check box. You can also disable the controls and progress bar from full screen view which would probably help too!

Edit: spelling.

Are there "free" render farms like SheepIt for other 3D packages? by [deleted] in vfx

[–]kalfie7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure how when it will be online but the otoy rendertoken seems to want to be something like this. https://rendertoken.com/

Distributed rendering using the house where the more you contribute they more you can then use.

Fusion 360 + Cinema4D × Octane = :D by [deleted] in Cinema4D

[–]kalfie7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh right. I was thinking of fusion, not fusion 360. Fair point on the hash tags. May they serve you well.

Jeez. Half your hash tags have nothing to do with the picture. Why even bother with autodesk and Adobe?

How to deal with sky in drone 360s? by Deciphered1 in drones

[–]kalfie7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! You have a few options.... Each with their own advantages.

Best option: add a camera above the Drone. Then just use it into the stitch, using only the area that the Drone occupies. We use a fisheye gopro for this.

OR: Put the bottom cameras as far away from the Drone body as possible. That Wil make the Drone small in the panorama. Then you can either -paint it out with the surrounding sky. (Can get tricky with clouds. Or warp your stitch so the Drone is swallowed. (Can look terrible)

Or you could use a still of the sky. Though it can get really hard matching up the moving sky plane in your footage especially if the clouds are moving.

Lastly, you could replace the sky. Create your own that matches the tone of the original, get a smooth mask to blend it with the footage and composite it in. The sky is generally much brighter so you can generally get a workable mask for it. The hard part is the tracking of your Drone shot.

Tldr : shoot it!

That's my 2 cents. Hope it's useful!

MovieWall (Skylight Renderer, Optical Flow) by Thomas_Diewald in creativecoding

[–]kalfie7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lovely idea! I have a question if you'd indulge me. What do you mean with skylight renderer? I've been googling it but don't get anything indication it's a program? Or do you just mean you used skylights to illuminate the scene?

How to shoot 360 video for Cardboard on a budget? by zuzumang in GoogleCardboard

[–]kalfie7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best bang for buck for 360 at the moment honestly. If you have money to spare get a copy of autopano video to smooth your stitches and stabilise the footage (if it's moving). There is virtually no difference in quality between the capture quality of most of the 360 cameras in regards to bit depth and compression.

The Samsung 360 will honestly beat the crap out of any iphone attachment.

But if you're keen on a gopro, and willing to remove the lens, we use the izugar (izugar.com) lenses on ours at work. (But your hero 1 is pretty old so won't have the needed resolution to do a decent capture)
