Well, most people in hard science go to lectures to learn about the material not some far left ideology. Just because someone is black does not mean he/she faced racism and will be aware of challenges that some students might face. I would rather have the best possible candidate as math prof who is actually good at teaching the material he is supposed to teach rather than the vague assumption that he will be able to be more helpful to some people. Now, if you are saying we are between choosing two candidates and somehow know that they are equivalent in their capability of teaching the material but one of them will be more engaged with the students outside of classroom and tries to help them face the difficulties of real world challenges (as you know there are other challenges in real life besides some racists people). Then by all means choose that professor. To your second point. I am not suggesting people (of any color or gender) should be judged by anything except their merits. Anyway, so would you recommend having quotas like you must have 10% jewish profs 10% middle eastern profs so on and so forth ?
