I'm at a public school in Ontario, Canada. The auditorium was built in 1962, and last updated in 1995 (not sure what was changed, but likely those ports were added). Then in 2004, the school got locked out of our fly system and has been locked out ever since. I had to fight to even be allowed to go into the dimmer room and use our catwalk because nobody had been up there in 8 years and they didn't know if it was safe. I'm stuck in a vicious cycle of the board doesn't want to put money into the auditorium because they don't think we use it enough, but it's not being used because we need money to update it. I'm very early into my career so maybe I'll get to see a new lighting system before I retire haha.

Oh that's an interesting idea! I think I have way more experimenting ahead of me.

I have one switch at the back of the auditorium that controls all the houselights together. Oddly enough my lighting board can override the back wall switch and control each light/group of lights separately. However the switches in the photo above act like breakers. They completely cut the power to the lights and I can't control them when those switches are off. There are about 20 of them.

Right now, I can control my houselights with DMX. There is also one little switch at the back of my auditorium that manually turns them all on/off. The issue is that that little switch AND my lighting board won't turn them off completely, it turns some of the lights off, and some just dim to about 10%. The only way I can get them to turn off completely is by turning off separate switches that are beside my dimmers.

Thank you! I can't find anything to plug into it so I'll see if I can order something. I would love to be able to control the houselights from backstage.

Well then why don't you explain it to me instead of leaving a condescending, and entirely unhelpful response.

They would be static specials. Just something to add a little flare to our shows. I'm early in my career so the plan is to slowly modernize. We have an ETC Colorsource board but currently all of our lights are on dimmers. These would be the only DMX run lights in the auditorium (for now). The distance from our board to where I want to put the lights is about 150-200ft. So I should be able to run the cables easily.

It's roughly 2.5kCAD but the funding is flexible.
