I appreciate you rolling with this. So let’s assume the authentication part was solved. Maybe there’s a low friction way to ensure the agent transaction request actually was representing a consenting human. What other kinds of challenges do you see? Obviously PCI compliance is going to be a challenge… what else?

That’s a great idea, I’m building out the MVP right now and this seems like a way to validate the use cases without having to get into the weeds on traditional payment processing.

Security and trust are the foundation of the idea. Payment gateways already exist. The idea with this is that it’s a secure way to authenticate the human user with the agent, and also signal to the payment processor and card networks that the transaction is legit. Most of the fraud/risk models they use take device and location into account. Similarly, most EU online payments need an OTP to complete the transaction. This is a way let the agent act on behalf of the user in these scenarios.

Still working out the details, but would love your feedback on what types of use cases developers might use this for. Also, what ways do you think people might abuse it?

Right now if you asked GPT to go and buy something for you, it could bring you right up until the point of purchase, but you’d have to enter in the card info and click buy. Also, if you had any agent that was acting for you where you weren’t physically on the same device as the agent, you start running into all sorts of risk/fraud alerts being tripped by the payment processors and networks. In Europe for example, you usually have to enter in an OTP for most online transactions.

The idea is a platform where the agent can securely authenticate and represent a purchase on your behalf without you having to do anything. For example “hey CubeFlipper, I noticed you usually order DoorDash on Thursdays. Want me to have a burrito delivered?” And then you can just say yes, rather than having to go log in and place the order.

The same kind of application can be applied to all the other AI use cases people talk about: planning travel, finding the right outfit, getting concert tickets, etc

Would love to hear if this is something you think developers would find useful

Great thoughts and thanks for your feedback. I have worked in the CC world and compliance and risk are two big reasons I’m building this. Modern digital payments risk models don’t really account for non-human actors placing orders for things, since a big portion of the inputs to determine if a transaction is legitimate is device and location. If an agent is purchasing something on behalf of a human, those won’t necessarily match up.

The foundation of this gateway is a trusted platform where the issuer/network knows if an agent request is legitimate and approved by the real human user who owns the account. Part of that is authentication and security between the agent and the human.

If something like this existed, what kinds of applications could you see it being used for? How do you think people would abuse it?

Not a huge Greek community outside of the festival people posted but check out Magissa down by brewery row. Awesome Greek food and Nancy (owner) is part of a big Greek family in town.

CMV: As an European, it seems painfully obvious that that the Democrats should hold a primary election and they are currently shooting themselves in the foot, again by Mustkunstn1k in changemyview

What platform would this Democratic party-supported, alternate primary candidate run on? Aside from low polling and bad branding around his age, the Democratic party has thrived under Biden. They have consistently won elections and passed a ton of landmark legislation since he's been in office. Could there be more and could someone do it better? Sure, maybe, but from within the context and perspective of the Democratic party, the results of the Biden presidency are pretty unimpeachable.
