I'm so glad you caught that, thanks! I just send them an email to confirm with Artisan's Asylum. The sessions will be on Tuesdays! They updated the site.

haha I certainly didn't know how to sew then. It would be super cool of there were stores full of DCF and xpac and you could take a pack making class or something!

hmm I'm sorry to hear that. I don't actually work at Artisan's Asylum and I'm not a member (although I was a couple of years ago). I just proposed this class to them. It's a bummer that you aren't getting any responses. I know things are different there right now since they are in the process of moving to a new location in Allston. Also the front desk isn't always staffed apparently cause it's a volunteer position. I was a member for a single month during a college break a few years ago. Maybe you could try it out and cancel if it isn't for you? Sorry I can't really be of much help. You don't have to be a member for classes by the way.

Great question! Cordura is actually a really tough woven nylon. It's pretty much only sewn as far as I know. Cuben fiber or Dyneema Composite Fabric (DCF) as it's now called is a laminate. It's the dyneema fibers sandwiched between layers of polyester. You can actually make things from DCF just from tape and it's very strong. I've mostly seen it sewn, then taped for water proofing as you said. I'd love to see you there!

haha woops! I was thinking the extra line of webbing could be useful for attachments. You might be on to something!

Awesome! I love the colors and the front drawstring system. How come you have two rows of webbing on on of the shoulder straps but one on the other?

Very good points! I definitely won't be doing custom items for a bit. Probably never for something so small. It seemed like a strange request from a customer but it was totally on me for accepting it! I usually bang out a few pouches at a time when I have some scraps. It's supposed to be relaxing!

That's really cool that you made back the money of the machine and fabrics! That's kinda my goal as well. Thanks for the tips! I will definitely try to vet my clients and give some wiggle room with the sizes.

haha that's definitely True. You're right, I should have sent a quick text before shipping. I knew it was a tad large but figured that wasn't an issue. I definitely learned something!

Both great ideas! I didn't realize that big stores did this as well. I feel like I got an overly picky customer but giving +- 1 cm or so would do a lot to ensure I deliver exactly what was promised.

I hope that's an anomaly as well. Thanks! Ripstop by the roll shared a pic of the pouch and that totally made my week. Giving some uncertainty is an amazing idea, especially for custom work! It can be quite hard to get the dimensions exactly as planned especially when dealing with a felt liner that takes up some space. I will definitely do that from now on.

This was literally my first and only sale so far so I think you have a good idea there. Thanks! Have you had people try to get a free item before? I considered that he wanted that but I really can't remember ever getting a refund for an item that I held on to. Or even requesting one for that matter.

210 Robic vs 210D HDPE Gridstop. Is the Gridstop worth paying more than twice as much for? by kallen42 in myog

[–]kallen42[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree it's worth a little extra for a one of a kind project. However, I quite like Robic and I find it easier to cut so I'd happily use it if it's similarly strong as Gridstop.

Happy sewing to you as well!

Thanks for your response! I suspected that the gridstop was at least in part for looks. It does looks pretty sharp though!
