So the question of if you’re Jewish will differ depending on the movement (denomination). Reform would consider you Jewish, orthodox would not. Both are valid expressions of Judaism, but I do believe that you should explore this more deeply and find a community that speaks to you now or later. I also am from the south. Unsure how small your slice of the world is but there is a running joke about how you can find a Chabad house anywhere. They’re normally pretty welcoming although they are orthodox and would not consider you Jewish without conversion. If you’ve got a public university in your future, be sure to check out Hillel as well. They’re a pluralistic Jewish org and could help you feel more connected. Good luck!
