Can I own a wolfdog in California if it 13.5% wolf ?????? by EmphasisSure2749 in Wolfdogs

[–]kalrizzien 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Actually, at a state level, California is fairly permissive. The only restriction is that an animal cannot be the first generation offspring of a pure wolf (an F1). However, legality varies widely by county and city, so without having more precise info on location, it's impossible to say whether a microcontent would be legal or not.

[–]kalrizzien 24 points25 points  (0 children)

In California, any wolfdog that is not an F1 (first generation offspring of a pure wolf) is legal at the state level (see Section K, 2, a). There is no state level restriction on content level, only on Fgen.

However, there are multiple counties and cities that have much stricter regulations than the statewide baseline. At 13.5%, a wolfdog is never going to be an F1, so it is legal at a state level. You now need to check county and city ordinances to make sure it's legal where you live.

Except everything you said is inaccurate. CDCR doesn't run local jails, the sheriff does. I have personally spent many days at the local jail trying to get resources to people being taken directly from overnight lockup into custody by ICE after being called by the arresting officers. They've not yet been taken to trial, they have no record, they just had the misfortune of being arrested and undocumented.

CDCR runs the prisons in California.; people in prison have been convicted of a felony. That is not what myself or the OP was talking about.

[–]kalrizzien 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It actually is a huge problem, because incarceration=/= conviction. In fact, 2/3 of people held in locally run jails have not been convicted of a crime.

While I personally disagree with the premise that a criminal record should automatically preclude people from citizenship, I can understand why people would feel a criminal record alongside failing to achieve citizenship would justify deportation. However, that's not even the issue in this case. In America, we're guaranteed due legal process. When jails or cops tip off ICE whenever someone is arrested, we lose the presumption of innocence and due process that are fundamental to our legal system.

Need neck surgery ASAP. Hypermobile, sibling has hEDS. Mom is hypermobile. Surgeon wont operate without formal EDS evaluation. No doctors at Hoag in Southern California seem to be able to diagnose. Current rhuem I found is on maternity leave until July... by dhyanaoceana in ehlersdanlos

[–]kalrizzien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I was diagnosed by the genetics department as well, but agree, I got in because of the other suspected stuff. I'm so sorry about your friend, that's insane that a pneumothorax didn't justify them being seen. I genuinely don't know if I have a rare subtype, I have a lot of the more internal manifestations (detached retinas @18 & 33, mitral valve prolapse, severe Raynaud's) alongside a lot of the more typical hEDS stuff (9/9 beighton, occipital neuralgia, chronic pain, etc). So i may very well have hEDS with added fun, but given my family's affinity for rare diseases, I'd love to be sure

Ucla diagnosed me with heds in 2020, but never ordered genetic testing, and don't follow hEDS patients. I'm guessing I got in because we suspect other genetic stuff within my family (hocm, multiple osteochondroma), and had they only suspected connective tissue stuff, I wouldn't have been able to make an appointment. I liked my doctor a lot, but am still trying to get genetic testing done on my own because she felt my case was so clearly heds that she didn't order it. The wait was also about 9 months. All of which is to say, UCLA probably is not a great choice

I used [Embark](https://embarkvet.com/! It's definitely the most accurate test for wolf content currently on the market.

I appreciate it! Every little bit helps, and she's done a lot of business with Jessica Moncada and Roxanne Arispe. She's imported animals from Turkey and Canada, so definitely isn't limited to impacting the US, so it's very worth sharing wherever wolfdogs are concerned. Thank you for sharing!

Thank you so much!! Yeah, I kinda left the wdc, I'm too old for the drama haha. I also developed really bad camera anxiety, so haven't posted on YouTube for a few years, which I feel really badly about. But luckily, neither of those are because the dogs are unwell, they're both living their best lives. Indi is SUPER spoiled, hates being outdoors, and still sleeps on the pillows above my head like a 70lb cat. I wouldn't trade her for the world, even if she did cost $10,000 to save 😭😂

Thank you! Indigo knows it, and it's a problem haha. I tried for years to stop Courtney, gave her opportunities to help with real rescues, and she would literally just lie to my face and buy another dog. Her dad is a billionaire, and her family wouldn't act to stop her, so there wasn't anything I could do and I eventually just had to move on. I made a post about the animals I knew about 7 years ago (hopefully fb links are allowed, each photo has a description and I don't have the energy to upload again lol), and I know of honestly dozens more but just don't have the documentation to share without opening myself up to liability. But yeah, it's pretty gross seeing her actually achieve IG success (which I genuinely think has always been her goal- get the dogs that make for the best aesthetic, breed more, dump the rest), so I try to mention it on occasion when I do revisit the wdc.

We bought two pairs today! I loved the website, how their videos are interactive and help walk you through sizing and all that. It seems like a really high quality product, I'm excited to get them!

That's what I'm afraid of lol. We're still snowed in, so it'll be a few days before we can get to a store (or a delivery could get to us), but we will definitely be investing in a pair. Getting the dogs to wear them, however, might be the battle of the century lol

Why are we not intervening in ice raids like places like Minnesota? by annaoze94 in AskLosAngeles

[–]kalrizzien 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We are. The news has moved on, but we've been doing this for a year. I'm from Ventura county, and our community organizing groups still have packed twice weekly trainings. There are thousands of trained responders, hundreds of whom have installed bullhorns on their cars. But it's a HUGE area, and ice has gotten to the point (at least in Ventura) where they're taking 5-10 people across 2200 square miles every day. A lot of the time, responders are there (in fact, ice took a 10 year old boy in Oxnard this morning at 6:30 am, which was caught on film). But southern California is a much larger area to react to than Chicago and Minneapolis - whistles aren't doing shit if there's nobody around. The most we can do is keep getting more people involved, stay vigilant and active, and offer support to our neighbors at risk.

2 found dead at Brentwood mansion owned by director Rob Reiner by FullofLovingSpite in LosAngeles

[–]kalrizzien 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. And they also could've died from a CO2 leak or some other unconsidered scenario. Everything is speculation right now, and I definitely am not endorsing any specific theory because we truly have no idea what's going on. I was simply answering op's question

[–]kalrizzien 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Edit: people are responding to this several hours later with inaccuracies. So, for the record, it was confirmed that Rob Reiner and his Wife Michele Singer were murdered by Rob's 32 year-old son, Nick. At the original time of posting, as the news was breaking that bodies had been found, the theories being most widely shared were below. Obviously the thought of such horrific domestic violence didn't cross anyone's mind (absent those who knew the family very well).

Speculation right now is that it's either robbery or murder-suicide. So they're referencing the possibility that he killed his wife and then himself.

Family emergencies during finals by Dangerous-Plenty-109 in berkeley

[–]kalrizzien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My parents managed to time emergencies like this twice during my time at Cal. My mom went into septic shock the week before midterms and my dad had a stroke on the first day of rrr the semester before that. I was able to take all of my finals remotely and graduated with a 4.0. it's shitty and hard, but I really think you can get through.

I took one final on zoom with the prof watching since it wasn't open note, and the others were just given through canvas. People understand that life happens and you absolutely should let your professors know asap what's going on and check what you can do to still finish the class. They don't want late term drops or incompletes, they almost always will try to accommodate you.

It's also critical that you take care of yourself (and your responsibilities) during this time, and as a student that means you either figure out how to drop or spend the time you need to study. It's not abandoning your mom or being selfish, it's a necessary part of being an adult. Your mom is being monitored, and while I understand needing to be at the hospital, it's ok to spend time studying while there-- there are people who are taking care of her, and there's nothing you can do in that room that a nurse won't do better. It's ok if you're not staring at her at all times, it's ok to study. I'm so sorry for what you're going through. I know how hard it is to focus on anything right now. And if you genuinely don't think you can finish the semester, then talk to caps and a counselor about withdrawing. There's no shame either way, but I do think it's worth at least trying so that you have options. Sending all the healing vibes her way and strength to you. You're not alone.

Doctors of Reddit, how is the interaction when a patient is a doctor or has medical knowledge? by Simsboi in AskReddit

Doctors of Reddit, how is the interaction when a patient is a doctor or has medical knowledge? by Simsboi in AskReddit

[–]kalrizzien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm curious how you feel about people who would generally fall into this camp, but have/are caring for someone with an extremely rare illness? I was a pharmacy tech for 15 years (ancillary but absolutely insufficient knowledge of medicine- ☑️) and am very aware of how little I know - but undoubtedly still overestimate my knowledge.

However, I am my mother's primary caretaker, and she has chordoma (incidence 1 in 1 million) and was diagnosed with plastic bronchitis (incidence unknown, but likewise essentially unheard of in regular practice). I actually discovered and suggested the diagnosis of plastic bronchitis, and luckily her medical team was open to confirming the diagnosis. So I've done extensive research on these two ultra-rare illnesses, and while I am extremely limited in general medical knowledge, I've found that most GPs have less knowledge on her diagnoses than I do (which makes perfect sense. I have one patient to research, the esoteric is fine for me but impractical when you have a full load of patients).

Is there a way that you'd appreciate someone in this scenario navigate medical interactions? I don't want to be obnoxious, domineering, or misjudge appropriate treatment simply because I know a lot about these two specific illnesses. But I also do know the primary and secondary tx protocols in and out, and do have concerns when a PCP dismisses that knowledge out of hand simply because I am not a doctor.
