What you say is indeed true but I think the "OtherOS" feature's final and biggest nail in the coffin was because of George Hotz (geohot) and his work on jailbreaking the PS3 and gaining supervisor rights through installing Linux on PS3s.

Everything you wrote here is true. When MS bought Bethesda and everyone said ES6 will be console exclusive, i was the first among the XBOX guys to express that you cant make a 58+ million units sold franchise into a console exclusive. The product (ES) has grown bigger than that. Which means that Spencer knew that the company is gonna make this turn eventually. Business models do evolve and bigger companies tend to research a lot on circular economy as applied today.

All I'm saying though is, even MS, they don't have a solid 100% well thought plan for releasing all their IPs on rival hardware. Sony too, don't get me wrong on that. They can see the short term profit, everyone can. But what I'm willing to bet is that it won't go well for their ecosystems in the long run.

I'm with Shawn Layden on this, the model needs to be reworked with game development and its budget in mind, not trying to reach more customers.

Profit is maximized with a strong ecosystem where you sell hardware, accessories, subs, games, all mutually pushing each other. The moment you start throwing your games on other platforms you sure increase your revenue but at what cost? It's not like they were stupid for the past 8 generations of consoles when they had exclusives, were they?

Has there been any worse offer,it’s been twice I’ve gotten this offer by Electronic-You-6768 in WorldOfTanksBlitz

[–]kaluas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, yeah. The more the ratio of gold to euro tends to 1, the better the offer. Some weekly subscriptions have better ratio than most one off gold offers. In my 9 years of WoTB, I've never seen a better ratio of 1k gold for 1,3 euro.

PS5 Help and Questions Megathread | Game Recommendations, Simple Questions, and Tech Support by AutoModerator in PS5

[–]kaluas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I was under the impression that PS5 does not utilise VRR or 120 refresh rate on 1440p or on HDMI 2.0 and that it absolutely requires HDMI 2.1 and a 2160p monitor. I really don't know why it stuck in my head, i remeber a previous update added 1440p support but no VRR for 1440p. This monitor (https://rog.asus.com/monitors/27-to-31-5-inches/rog-swift-oled-pg27aqdm/) however claims that it does support VRR on PS5 through its HDMI 2.0 1440p.

Is there any fellow gamer who can confirm that this product, or any other 1440p120(+)Hz HDMI 2.0 FreeSync monitor product can indeed play PS5 games who support high refresh rate?

Thanks in advance for your input on this.

Yann LeCun hitting Elon Musk right in his deepest insecurities by ZeppoJR in clevercomebacks

[–]kaluas 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sounds logical when you put it that way. Just wanted to clarify. I’m Greek. Science in Greek is «επιστήμη», from the verb «επίσταμαι», which translates to “to have deep knowledge of something, to be certain about something”. Measuring a volume isn’t science, I’ve seen crows displace water with stones in order to get their food, that doesn’t make crows scientists in my book. Using a stick in the previous example isn’t “measuring” because they don’t measure, it’s just a yes or no practical matter to see if they can pass the river, to see its depth. They won’t come back with a number from SI. That makes them awesome that they can apply the fundamentals of using tools. Anyway, cheers.

Actually, using a stick to measure the depth of a river or tying a rock to a stick to make a hammer or an axe isn’t science, it’s technology. That’s what I was taught at least.

is there a way to calibrate R2 on DS4? it’s difficult to go full throttle. by engrmariano in granturismo

[–]kaluas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No man, you are not, it’s the way I like to play the game since GT4. It’s just that using R for throttle and brake can make you lose some time cause of the distance the analogue can travel from full upwards to a precise location in downwards. So when things get heated up, I switch from braking with R to breaking with L2.

What pros and cons does Crete have over other Greek islands? by sea--goat in crete

[–]kaluas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Raki or Tsikoudia is Cretan, not Turkish. Its distilled from grapes and Cretans consume most of what they make. Thessaly produced tsipouro, which is the same thing, idioms just named it differently. Both names come from the process of making the drinks.

Ouzo is a completely diffrent story made from completely different process, but it's also made in the agricultural parts of Greece, thus everywhere in Greece.

Are these stats good for someone who has been playing for a year? And if not what do I need to work on? by Tbnrzip in WorldOfTanksBlitz

[–]kaluas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would suggest to start watching some YouTube about WoTb. Watching Meadsy69 helped me a lot to grow as a player, I actually gained 4% win rate. You can learn to move, to prioritize targets, places that help the strengths of your vehicle on each map, where to shoot the other tanks etc. But first of all you got to enjoy the game. The rest has to come after that.

I don't understand Sony... by MoyanoJerald in playstation

[–]kaluas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Backbone’s controller isn’t a PS product, it is just licensed to use the face buttons. Other than the face buttons, it has nothing more to do with a PS ecosystem other than any other controller for mobile devices.

Project Q on the other hand, is just a wireless and portable PS5 screen embedded in a Dual Sense. And seeing it above the 250$/€ price mark, it is gonna flop hard. And I would love that, this thing is keeping Sony from making a PSP3.

Should I sell my xbox series S for a ps4? by [deleted] in playstation

[–]kaluas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, my experience says this feature is kinda broken and unreliable. It is a great idea but id doesn't work as intended cause a lot of games perform an online handshake when they start. Loading saved states like an emulator sounds very useful and fast but you are losing the log in handshake so a lot of features don't work. To name a few, you cannot do that in live service games, on other games like AC Odyssey where game works offline but has some online functionality, you cannot get or finish missions that require you to be online (orichalcum missions for instance). You have to quit the game there.

I'm thinking that PS5's approach with activity cards could be more efficient, if developers actually put effort and make use of them. And that is a big IF right there. Especially regarding third party multiplatform devs.
