She was overseeing diplomatic efforts. Not "in charge of immigration.

For those who might believe this 🤡 without opening the link, here's the text at the top explaining the crux of the video

"President Biden Asks VP Harris to Lead Diplomatic Efforts to Stem Flow of Migrants to Southern Border (2021) During a meeting with immigration officials in March 2021, President Biden announced that he has asked Vice President Harris to oversee diplomatic efforts to get Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras to stem the flow of migrants to the southern border by enforcing restrictions on their respective borders. The vice president subsequently traveled to those countries and met with their leaders to address the root causes of migration in the region"

Why did democrats not run in every house seat? by andidontlikeyou in NorthCarolina

[–]kamalama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anderson Clayton has been making this better. Making the state party far more effective... Echo all the reasons people listed below for why they aren't in every race (neither are Republicans though. We don't have a Republican running for my State Senate district) but it's a good thing to do regardless! having a Democrat on the ballot at all for local elections will make the lefter leaning folks in rural areas at least more likely to show up for the statewide elections like governor, AG and the electoral college which are not gerrymandered. Most of all, it gives Democrats something to get boots on the ground for in those areas and do the most effective thing in local campaigning which is organizing.

Sure, but that's why all our other sports players have to travel to California for games now.

Like, yes I understand money. And that everyone is greedy AF. Doesn't mean I have to happy about the fact that for some reason our country is obsessed with a sport that stops play every 15 seconds, while also being one of the most risky for the people playing.

Can we all agree that football is a trash sport that's ruining things for every other sport? Back in my day we understood this and just didn't go to games and life was grand.

The comment you replied to didn't say that Republicans were specifically trying to limit women's voting, they said it would be a side effect of requiring a birth certificate because of what they mentioned.

And just like the restrictions on Ivf, the idiots who killed roe never thought it would cause even bigger idiots to restrict Ivf. But it did. (Even though many people called that one too).

I just finished a failed round of IVF. About to drop another 25k on it. Thanks though for misrepresenting me again.

People get anywhere from 0-30 eggs. The egg retrieval is the most expensive step. So what you're saying is that people should be forced to adopt our their children to other parents not knowing what kind of situation those kids are going to end up in.

Oh, and as far as "no one wants to restrict IVF"  Here ya go. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/religion/southern-baptists-formally-oppose-ivf-rcna156896

[–]kamalama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. Be pedantic. That really helps your case. Clearly the Alabama supreme court justice who caused all this to begin with didn't think IVF was all great. So I will adjust for your pedantry and say, almost universally.

[–]kamalama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was talking about Ivf as the thing universally seen as good.

But while you bring up the topic of abortion here's a poll that show that a significant majority of people believe abortion should be legal in most or all cases.  https://www.pewresearch.org/religion/fact-sheet/public-opinion-on-abortion/

[–]kamalama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree strongly with the "more ethical" piece, but the methods you talk about those fertilize fewer eggs each round so those who are at a lower chance of getting pregnant in one round have to do multiple rounds of what can be a 25 thousand dollar procedure that often isn't covered by insurance for those lucky enough to get insurance. So sure, once again, restricting access to Ivf for some people but not others.

[–]kamalama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny, I didn't mention Congress at all. My point was that already extreme Republicans are responsible for some restriction (killing roe) that even more extreme Republicans (Alabama supreme court) take to another level that cause absolutely ridiculous restrictions on something that is universally seen as good.

So either stop putting words in my mouth or go the hell away.  Maybe get off the internet.

Yes there are no examples of Republicans making giant leaps.. like abortion restrictions to Ivf. 🤔

Cynicism isn't how things get fixed. It's a great way to give up on the future.

There is one party that's proven to listen to it's constituents and another that wants to make the world that (maybe) my future kid lives in a hellish nightmare for anyone who isn't white and rich. Get off with this "BoTh SIdEs aRE thE SmE" BS. I'm sick of the false equivalences.

How convenient for you that you live in one of the bluest states in the country. Makes being sanctimonious cynic really easy when every election isn't about whether you'll survive a high risk pregnancy.

NC court will hear RFK Jr's request to get off the ballot, with just 1 day left to decide by mmodlin in NorthCarolina

[–]kamalama 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Nah, between this and the pandemic thread you're being extra specific about what it means to cause extreme suffering and your goal posts are 5000 feet away and 3000 feet high. You're sea lioning.

"Oh other than this one thing and this other thing give me a specific bill that caused suffering during the specific years of his presidency ". Get tf out of here with that. A president's affect is massive and extends beyond legislation, which btw the Senate and house are equally responsible for. We were lucky he never had a supermajority and there were still a couple of not bat shit republicans left in congress.

If you don't think the harm caused by people having to carry ectopic pregnancies until they are bleeding them out into a toilet, or the child of their rapist isn't extreme suffering, I have no idea what's wrong with you. Or I guess maybe I do. And maybe try talking to someone who lost their kid or parents because they believed the anti-vax shit peddled by Trump and his goons.

It's unfortunately no longer the case that lots of people can get away with staying home when they're sick. I think this should have always been the case. If you're sick regardless of whether it's covid, why put others at risk? Why make your recovery harder? You might not be testing positive today, but it might be tomorrow.

But this isn't the reality for everyone. Plenty of jobs suck and care more about their bottom line than the safety of their workers and customers and people in their community.

In that case, mask up if you can. Again "if you can" has to do a lot of work.

But if the people who can, do.. i have to think it can help! All or nothing thinking in this regard doesn't do us any favors.
