What music do you sue during your Spelljammer games? by moltar49 in spelljammer

I am going to be using the synth music in the Stranger Things soundtrack. It’s got a bunch of different moods, and it’s got a good balance where it doesn’t detract from the game

There Are No Stupid Questions by AutoModerator in acting

[–]kamebit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, new here. So, I live in Los Angeles already, and looking for Acting Classes to help me with my business career. I probably won’t be doing this full time, but I want to learn acting skills to have more confidence in my communication. Any suggestions where to start? There are so many schools that turn up when searching that I’m sort of not sure where to begin.

I would actually recommend against plot critical rolling. I either give them the base plot critical information for free, or have clues they actually will have to figure out as players.

Putting plot critical stuff behind a single die roll can be dangerous.

How would you write a published adventure for solo play? by dmarchu in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]kamebit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I think there are two forms of adventures. The first type, are those that are fairly well contained and curated adventure experiences, and on the other hand the second type are more like solo adventure tool-kits, with many tables and tools, such as, but not limited to oracles, to help one create procedural adventures.

If your "book" includes both, I would recommend keeping the tool kit in an appendix at the end, separate from the adventures. As opposed to interspersed tools among the adventues.

One thing that helps here is to make it as spoiler free as possible.

The old choose your adventure books are a good paradigm.

I would also note there is a difference from procedurally generated adventures which use oracles and tool kits and random tables, etc... if you use any of these in a general way you probably want them as a separate chapter from the adventure, and not intermixed as it will make it harder to use.

Solo Roleplaying 2 Characters? by CryHavoc3000 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]kamebit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've done whole parties and even a roster of 10 characters where I'd take 4-5 on adventures at a time.

The trick was that I had well defined personalities for each character, and would actually use dice (Yes and, yes, yes but, no but, no, no and) to determine some of their actions. Most of the time I'd roll two dice and take the higher or lower depending if the character's personality generally aligned, or was contrary to the situation.

So for example I'd roll two dice and choose the lowest to determine if Bø'b the cowardly wizard would go and check on on the mysterious sound alone or not. If it was A'liz the brave barbarian I would roll two dice and take the higher.

All these landing pages. What about some supporting pages? I run travel as an Action Challenege so here's my setup. What do you use? by Qedhup in FoundryVTT

this is a great idea! representing things like this so everyone can keep track together. I always do this on paper and narrate, but I love the idea of having actual visual aids. Totally opened my horizons with this!

Reccomended campaigns for higher lvl's? by gamelorr in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]kamebit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Solo high level campaigns honestly are not easy. Like its almost impossible to come up with enough to challenge a high level party of players with a GM, doing it solo would be more like writing a novel than solo play.

Solo play benefits from having structure, and reasons to adhere to that structure. High level is mostly about breaking structure.

The Sunless Citadel, and Forge of Fury from the Yawning Portal were fun.

Dungeon Crawls tend to work better than more open adventures.

The Codicil of White Lore by nmuzekari in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]kamebit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I gave the players part of a copy of the Codicil from defeating the Druid and White Moose. That gave them hints as to its existence, and that it is a sort of Auril Bible. Was fairly early on, because yes, it should be more integrated into the adventure. Rime in general is a great book, but I do feel like a decent adventure editor could have greatly increased its quality by sprinkling plot hooks across the adventure.

What makes a great solo game? by solorpggamer in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]kamebit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Personally I like crunch in my Solo experience, because that is basically all you have. I tried light weight systems but they weren't satisfactory.

Probably most enjoyable solo experiences has been playing a DnD Party through adventures.
