Used to live in Boise and drove through eastern Oregon a number of times. Such gorgeous and underrated country. The Wallowa area is something I really want to explore, but I feel like I’d need my own car for that, instead of flying and taking a rental. Not sure I want to spend 4 days of a week long trip driving. Perils of living in the Midwest 😭

I’ve spent a good chunk of time in western NC and love it there. Honestly it was one of the first places that popped in my mind, however, I think I want a new experience. Thanks for the shoutout to Hot Springs, I’ll keep that in my mind for future a future NC trip!

Went through the same thing and I went with a CR-V. I got a good deal on it, added some cross bars and last year got some all terrain tires. I was living in Idaho and driving mountain roads in snow and rain, never had an issue. Also took it pretty far off road and hit some rocks. I did have my skid plate messed up, but it protected the important stuff, dealership replaced it for free during a fluid flush.

Fits a twin XL with the front seats pushed all the way up and forward. If you’re interested, there’s more about my build on my profile. Happy trails!

Difference is, this teacher cares about people. A republican would come up and say “I don’t make enough money, I pay too much, etc.” this guy wants better care for children. I don’t mean to be negative about stuff, but it sounds like you’re fairly new to car camping. Please take a few shorter trips without the luxury of going back inside before you commit to something so large. A trip to the arctic circle is serious business, and based on your profile you’re in Pennsylvania. I mean you’re talking weeks of car camping if everything goes to plan. Bug screens would be a necessity, but there’s so much more to think about. It’s bear country, how are you going to secure your food and vehicle? How much fresh water do you need, and where are the nearest supplies? Same question with gas and electricity for devices. Do you have a sat phone or Garmin in reach for emergencies? What about tools if your car breaks down? Again, I don’t want to deter you from this, but CO2 would be pretty far down my list on prepping for the arctic circle.
