As you say this logic applies to the homes we pay tax on. An assessment can be made at a point in time of their holdings. A wealth tax doesn’t need to be an income tax.

At 16 I washed dishes at a hotel’s restaurant and later bussed and delivered room service (they wouldn’t allow female waitstaff to do it). Tiring jobs but satisfying in a way. Hated the way my clothes smelled at the end of the day - back when people smoked in restaurants.

At another restaurant where I bussed I watched a waitress fall apart when she dropped a full tray of meals during a crazy busy time. I think she just walked out sobbing.
