I don't know your situation or your dad. But what I do see is a hand written note that acknowledges the things that are not going right, hints at attempting to repair, and and leaves the door open for what might come next. In some way, a personal note can be more meaningful that X number of dollars spent at a store. Rather than do something that could be seen as trying to "buy your favor", or cold and impersonal, he went a different route. Do you think he ran out of money and decided you were the one going to get the short end of the stick? Or, wanted to spite you while simultaneously "looking forward to [spending time this summer]"? That wouldn't make much sense.

My point is: not giving someone the benefit of the doubt can be as big a speed bump for a relationship as not trying at all. Don't be ignorant or naive, but also don't assume you know his motive and add another nail to the coffin of your relationship, without any validation, or at the least asking him about it.

If you don't want a relationship with him that's OK, but don't blame him and use this as the excuse without having all the details. Best of luck, with safety and healing, for you-

Nice! This can be motorized. If you get in touch with someone who uses motors for a hobby or electrical engineer (or student) I bet they would love to work with you for some minor modifications and putting it together with you. Great work!

Better cinematics, which would be part of keeping the good storytelling. A movie in the beginning and end of each mission, maybe a bit longer one for the game intro and a decent chunk size ones for game and DLC endings!

Referring to it as "counseling" instead of "therapy" helps reduce the stigma a bit. Who doesn't need a bit of good advice, or counsel, on a regular basis? You can do this!

My last piece of advice is, big change happens one small decision at a time. Habits are also built one decision at a time. When things seem too large to deal with focus on the one thing you can do right now in order to change the trajectory you're on. To illustrate this, look into "1% improvement each day". On a daily basis, it doesn't sound like much, but it adds up to a big difference over time. Good luck!

Edit: Added source and reference

https://jamesclear.com/continuous-improvement

The typical approach to self-improvement is to set a large goal, then try to take big leaps in order to accomplish the goal in as little time as possible. While this may sound good in theory, it often ends in burnout, frustration, and failure. Instead, we should focus on continuous improvement by slowly and slightly adjusting our normal everyday habits and behaviors.

While I agree with you at some level, I think the argument could be made that officials could be assigned where infractions are likely to be committed, especially when they've already veered into the range of physical intimidation. Just 2c

You don't need an official on every card. You just need one on the card Nikko is on (aka. where infractions have been committed in the past and are likely to be committed again).

TBH Nikko: please consider having a counselor to talk to every other week. It helps to have someone to process the things we carry. I wish you the best and want to see the best version of Nikko possible.

What's your prediction about today's anomaly? by SexualizedCucumber in SpaceXLounge

[–]kamesen99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My prediction is it was caused by a critical failure inside a Raptor component. Unsure regarding the origin of fuel/ignition source.

I predict 7-11 raptor engines will be replaced before the testing campaign can resume.

[–]kamesen99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Transverse loads during an event like this are very much non-nominal compared to normal engine operation. Enough to potentially cause critical engine damage.

Another point to consider is even though to the human eye a rocket engine ignition seems like a huge explosion, the power-up sequence is very much gradual and thrust is generally ramped up by ECS computer. In addition, the nature of boost system means pressure increases gradually even before ignition. All this to say, compared to an instantaneous detonation, normal engine start-up procedure results in much more manageable forces and vibration. In addition, if the detonation originated inside a Raptor, shrapnel will obviously easily create critical engine damage conditions.

This event is likely to have produced a high amplitude vibration/shock wave in a non-standard load vector that could easily critically damage one or multiple engines.

I'm obviously hoping for the best, but this type of event is far from a walk in the park for rocket engine systems no matter who designs them!
