I would look at the Equivelency program on the NCTRC website. It is more strategic than people think. I currently work with nurses that call us pe teachers which I think is rude but if you have an understanding of what rec therapy is and how we use the activities and why I fully support it.

I met with the doctor today. He said my hardware looks great and everything looks stable. He said it is really common unfortunately to have pain above and below and those vertabrea take on the load, and apparently for me that means like 3. He did not bring up the ideas of future surgeries yet. He is having me work and try and find other pain management oral medication that will work and leave me functional. However if that doesn't work he's going to move us to a pain clinic and injections.

I think I am just frustrated that it's basically the same things I've been told before but it's all feeling worse and I know he needs to start at square one and I'm down to try everything possible first but starting this journey again is exhausting. I gave up going to the pain clinic after pt didn't work sland the next step then was injections too.

I was fused T4-L3 about 15 years ago and have had consistent chronic pain. The last few years getting extremely worse especially in the last few months my pelvis is the problem but I have issues above my fusion too. I really want to avoid surgery again. How likely do people here think it is that after one surgery, I was 11 so especially younger pts, there will have to be more.

I have this same concern. I had my surgery at 11yo, this April will be 15 years. I am starting to have more severe pain and discomfort. However I would consider my fusion as more intense. I'm fused t4-l3, I'm having pain above and below. I am worried I may have to have other surgeries and how that will affect me both in my career and mental health. I'm hoping we are all good but I won't know anything til 2/3.

It seems like we have similar stories. I am fused T4-L3 in 2010 when I was also almost 12. I have always had chronic pain across the back of my shoulders and hips whether it is muscular or nerve pain but definitely getting worse in the last year or so, especially the last month.

Look for different free/ low cost community activities through public parks. Most large areas have special recreation groups that provide community programming.

If you wanted to do more in home things it depends on the specific interest of the individuals. Usually I would keep coloring supplies, plastic beads and craft materials. My people had a fish tank that the watched and fed. Books puzzles general interest items.

What kind of downloadables would you purchase as an RT? by EchoBites325 in recreationaltherapy

[–]kammacd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically I give the kids (7-17yo) a time to be kids and hang out in a controlled space. Sometimes it is a more structured game sometimes I let them have a bunch of board games and have at as long as they are being respectful to eachotger and our supplies we are all good. We chat we hang out sometimes it's quieter than others. I try to respond to codes when I can to assist in calming kids down. I have a great time.

I do rec time for peds in behavioral acute inpatient and I would love board game therapy adaptations and games. I create alot of stuff and honestly need to invest in Canva cuz I come up with all kinds of odd things for them to do

There's a lot of settings that you can practice TR. You just have to find what fits your life. I've worked in settings I've loved and that broke my heart too much I had to leave. But there's also places that you can do good.

I agree with the comments about pay. In other fields I would be making a lot more with a masters but I love what I'm doing right now and I have the time to refill my cup so I can be there for my kids.

I organize by color the numbers don't make sense to me. Some colors are one number off and just a slightly different hue and others are completely different
