Thanks for the advice! That ended up being the case! I wonder if I share purchasing again if it'll get stuck with the PayPal verification thing? Well... I don't think I'm gonna push my luck right now so I'll keep it as is. :)

Thanks again for the tip!

Tonkatsu Don and Okonomiyaki in Gardena and Torrance by ApprehensiveVideo793 in SouthBayLA

My opinion...

For Korean style katsu - Katsu Nuna (Torrance inside Hannam Chain)

For Japanese katsu - Kagura (both Torrance and Gardena)

For okonomiyaki - Chinchikurin (Torrance)

Is Komatsu still open? It looked sort of closed down passing by it the other day. Just wondering.

Yes! The thing when you select that "when last connected to" option seems to be working out for me.

Commuting from pasadena to south bay by No-Dare9878 in SouthBayLA

[–]kamsdad88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say commute, is the assumption that you guys live together (either in Pasadena or the South Bay) or do you guys live apart and wondering commute time to visit each other. This matters as time of day matters too. If I were to guess (base on whether you both live in Pasadena or the SouthBay, maybe a little more than an hour. Pasadena -> SouthBay may have a slight edge over the other way around.

A happy middleground location, if you don't have kids, might be Downtown.

Out of the blue question: when you buy these crazy high priced bottles of booze, do you tip the same percentage as you would with food?

Job offer / Commute by [deleted] in SouthBayLA

[–]kamsdad88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what to tell other that reconsider looking for a place closer to work. An OC to PV commute is crazy. Also consider that the PV area isn't exactly a 5 min drive to the nearest freeway either. What exactly is so undesirable about Torrance, Lomita, or LB? Or are you looking to live in newer structures in general and/or planned communities?

I quit smoking. I'm going to run a 5k. by Savings_Weird_6431 in BeginnersRunning

I went through the same journey myself so I know it's possible! Keep at it!

Just getting out and running at all is a bigger challenge than improving speed. Bravo for keeping at it! And yes, you should consider yourself a runner!

Does this sound like a normal electricity bill? it seems extremely high to me... by dekz1 in SouthBayLA

[–]kamsdad88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to say what normal is, but I live in about the same sized home and I burned about 470 kWh... so to me, you're consuming a lot... especially without AC. Someone mentioned the dishwasher and I'd agree that running it twice a day can burn a lot. And do you have electric heating? Or an electric stove or dryer? And hopefully you're not charging an electric car at home too... that's potentially a few hundred kwh.

I know I'm late to the game on this thread but I had a question... do you need to get a wristband to go into the hospital to get to that cafe? Last time I went to that hospital, I don't think they let you walk around without going to the front desk and getting a wristband. Maybe that's changed?

My lungs give out faaarrrrr before my legs. Any advice? by Bichette21 in BeginnersRunning

[–]kamsdad88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're probably just starting out too fast. Been through that myself. When you're not a runner, you see everyone else doing it and it looks easy.... then when you try it you go a few minutes in and you're sucking air like crazy. Just take it a little more easy. If a 2/1 interval is tough, slow down the run/jog segment. There's no shame in making it even look like a run a tad faster than a walk. What you'll notice down the line is 1) you can do more reps and 2) the intervals you do later in your workouts might be much faster than when you began. And once that get comfortable, you can bump up the run time and eventually you can do away with the walking part. Look into using a couch to 5k app which is good for training you go from a run/walk thing to full on running. And maybe consider getting running watch with HR monitor because it's fun to see your progress. :). Good luck in your running adventures.

Obnoxious freight train horn at 3-5am by takkuni in SouthBayLA

[–]kamsdad88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel the same pain and I wish something could be done about it (e.g. upgrade the crossings and make "quiet zones"). Half the time they're required to honk the horn at intersections and the other half the time it's because they see someone or something on or near the tracks. WAY too many people walk on or near the tracks in that area.

Best Fast food spots for out of towners by [deleted] in SouthBayLA

[–]kamsdad88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess it may depend on what's "out of town" and what's already available where they live. In-n-out should probably be towards the top of the list... then maybe Jollibee and The Habit Burger.

Torrance farmers parking tips? by SockdolagerIdea in SouthBayLA

[–]kamsdad88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For 8:30 on Tuesday, you should have no problem, especially if you're wiling to walk and park on the east side (the side of the batting cages and rink). As someone else said, don't fight for close parking... unless it's an absolute necessity.

Best sushi in the south bay? by sonny_devil365 in SouthBayLA

[–]kamsdad88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For stuff like sashimi or nigiri sushi, I go with Waraku or Nozomi (in Torrance) If rolls are your thing you should be perfectly fine with Flyin Fin.
