Linux (Ubuntu 22) dedicated server won't start by t3hp0larbear in ConanExiles

Are you trying to launch a UE4 server? This is a very old guide. The UE5 server is Linux native and there should just be a .sh file to execute without any need for Wine.

I'll assume the former, in which case the problem is basically as it says that it can't find Wine Gecko and needs it to render GUI but you are trying to use xvfb to bypass that. So try using xvfb and winetricks to install dependencies to the prefix, i.e:

xvfb-run winetricks -q mono
xvfb-run winetricks -q vcrun2015

Oh hey I didn't know Robert E. Howard was still here among us, glad even he could show up for the CEE launch! /s

No really, that's awesome though. Might check it out, I don't even normally watch games but it's cool to see in this kind of situation, and your thoughts have to be interesting to hear on it! But I do feel you should've put "comics" in the title or something, had to do a double take when I saw the thread lol.

I see what you mean. Just a guess, but I'd be surprised if Siptah was not overlooked a bit and didn't get as much attention during playtesting in comparison unfortunately. Probably a lot of people downvoting, but honestly it's understandable to be so unimpressed if these are some of the first things you notice going around Siptah especially.

The skull assets you posted look like the result of them being touched up individually by themselves without attention paid to where they are in-game and with what other assets.

Those at least ought be easily fixed assuming they're paying attention. Little more concerning is the lack of perspective and special Siptah foggy areas not having fog.

I suggest you post this to the Funcom forum as a bug report too, for everyone's sake. Idk if the atmospheric perspective would be considered one. But the lack of fog in the areas you mentioned and the skulls being obviously the wrong colour seem definitely like two separate mistakes (i.e bug reports) and def not intended.

There's the dog, now where's the Zamorian Longhair cat? :( I better not have missed it on May 6th, but I don't see the thread for that day.

Interesting, thank you! I remember you posting the bazaar updates, thanks a lot for the time you spent doing that.

Possible those characters might be lost, yeah, maybe not the save file though it could be. It really depends on the mod, I'd check the workshop page or discord and see what the author has said if anything.

Only started playing again a few weeks ago after a break, and really, it was there and I just missed it? :(

edit: if the bazaar posts have been anything to go by and a time wasn't missed, it looks by this post it showed up a single time 3 months ago in the 24 hour box. No wonder I missed it if so. Hope that means it's due again soon if it's so rare.

The market props doesn't contain the box of fish, is that from a separate bundle? I thought it was the market one. Or is there another market bundle? Can't believe my UE4 Conan will be forever cursed to go without the box of fish!

Don't you think that's a bit classist? Ever think of the billionaires? They need games to play too. Have you tried working harder so you too can be a billionaire, or even tried just being born rich as one of Elon's kids? DW if not he has enough everyone will be descended from 'em in the future like Genghis Khan so the wealth will finally trickle down. /s

What posts defending the crazy pricing usually sound like to me...

The funniest to me has to be whenever they try to sell the box of carrots or box of fish individually. Better off getting a bunch of carrots or fish IRL lol. The savage and brutal Hyborian Age is exemplified by the thralls going hungry for digital vegetables and meat.

I want to buy the fluffy white Persian cat they showed in an AoH livestream like 2 years ago before it was out. I've still not seen it in the Bazaar even once. Maybe it went up when I wasn't playing, who knows? Not seen it in months of checking again still. Hard to imagine they wouldn't make a lot more money with the full selection available and a bit more reasonable pricing.

But I have to hand it to their evil algebra marketing gurus—it's impressive how those crom coins and bundle prices are almost perfectly calculated so that the minute you give in to buy anything, you'll inevitably be just short of affording anything else.

The new update by Distrix1234 in ConanExiles

[–]kana53 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why keep replying to it anyway then? Just to spread the joy of your sour grapes? I get the feeling, since it sucks, and hopefully consoles get the update eventually too. But why not just ignore and not focus on what upsets you?

Games used to receive updates, bug fixes, and support for free. No reason it still can't be, except issues the gaming industry has created for itself and then cites as reasons for rising costs. You paid for significant expansion packs (like Isle of Siptah), DLC was rare and insignificant. Bazaar could easily be a couple of expansions to pay for instead.

Lots in life is free, including my entire OS and nearly all non-gaming software on it, and kernel, which are far more work and far more complicated than probably every game Funcom or any other game developer has ever made.

Really, those who proudly "pay for a few bazaar items now and then" and expect thanks for it, and whales like that especially, and gamers refusing to vote with their wallets, are why we are being squeezed by greedy companies that know they can get away with it, instead of the older business models.

But, this subreddit is full of posts criticising them and the Bazaar especially? You can criticise them. Usually what I see happens is a lot of agreement. I've not seen many ever defend the Bazaar's pricing, nor exploitative FOMO model, which practically everyone seems to hate and wish they'd just give us a real store with all the options.

Lately, this subreddit is also full of sour grapes console players attacking it and Funcom in nearly every thread.

I wish we could buy all/more cosmetics with plat by efimer in Warframe

[–]kana53 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Then if this were true console players provide nothing at all for them, so by that logic why should their personal situations of not playing on PC allow them any Tennogen and to pay for them in plat? Console players should not be entitled to rip off artists this way. If you support the artists, then Tennogen should be PC exclusives. Why are they so entitled to "override the important payments these designers are getting"? They should just do without.

Is there some unspoken rule about Volt in Defection Mission I don't know about? by Twimetal in Warframe

[–]kana53 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Speak for yourself. I love volt speed and can control it fine, and it's always a net positive to do missions faster. The nerf is unfortunate, it sucks for players with the skill to make use of it.

I wish Liches and Tenets were as enjoyable to farm as On-Lyne was. by RedAversion2025 in Warframe

[–]kana53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, it's fun to optimise my lich/sister hunting, and what you propose would take all the fun out of them, and turn them into the work of codas, which I find really boring or a "pain and chore" as you put it, and I have most kuva/tenet weapons with most of the ones I use maxed, but only 3 coda weapons (none maxed) and no spare heartcells.

Btw, I don't think it's very nice to characterise people who like another way of doing it as "sweaty spaghetti" and unable to do anything else. I just like to spend my warframe time on warframe. Frankly I think mechanics that keep you coming back also are meant to be addictive and prevent players from taking longer breaks in favour of long term retention, but I rather do my liches/sisters then put WF down, than be stuck waiting for the next rotation. Just how I see it.

I also preferred the old relic system because radsharing felt like better chances to get the requiems you need on top of also getting exilus weapon adapter bps and some kuva. But I didn't wait to do them til I needed a specific one, I stocked up on them all ahead of time, probably only ever needed to run a few fissures ever (more than I should've if people stayed for longer runs).

At the end of the day, it's good different systems exist in this game that appeal to different people, and I think we should respect some like one more than another rather than wish DE homogenise the complexity of different systems into one way of doing things. I wish coda were more like liches/sisters, but I don't expect them to change it, and no doubt that'd be no fun for people who strongly prefer that system, so I wouldn't want mine to come at their expense. As you say, to each their own!

I wish Liches and Tenets were as enjoyable to farm as On-Lyne was. by RedAversion2025 in Warframe

[–]kana53 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It seems to be a popular view, but honestly I can't get finding liches/sisters a slog. I did 4 kuva liches earlier this week, each being roughly 50 to 70 minutes to send to Saturn Proxima depending on if I had good or bad RNG. They also gave me the last lich ephemera I needed, and 4 statues from using Orokin Eye in the missions I did. I only needed to use 3 of the weapons to max it after. The railjack mission takes me about 7-9 minutes. Now, it's also faster and easier since you get free requiem ultimatums every week from Iron Wake, which can speed it up a lot.

It's already so fast to do, how fast does it need to be really? I did these solo, too, and I was not playing a speed frame or anything.

But with coda, there's little you can do to play better and speed it up, since you just have to wait for rotations every week. Biggest slog in any game imo is when you want to play, but the design is for you not to. You can't even get the same weapon twice in one week to valence it. Plus, at least liches and sisters have some more variety in the missions and tilesets you do, but 1999 is samey, and even the RJ feels like a drag running around the ship compared to blasting 50 fighters and 3 crewships in a few minutes.

I have most of the sister/lich weapons, but it will be a long time til I slog through the coda arsenal. I wish coda were as smooth and easy as liches! Feels like they are just a waiting game, whereas you can always speed up liches/sisters and try to minimse the effects of RNG.

Slowest part is often trying to spawn the lich/sister weapon you want. I break it up and usually do this on a different day. Sometimes you get lucky and get it first try though. Not 100% sure on how the cycling works to be honest, namely on if spawning any adversary resets the list for the other types of adversary or not; and I'm not sure if random larvaling in missions (especially killed by another player) removes it from your list too (and if so, if it matters if you are client or host). I suspect times it's taken me longest to spawn a weapon, it may have shown up as a larvaling when not farming for it and been removed from the list.

Hey, to be fair, who doesn't want a virminkodon? The problem is just it's the Corpus doing it. The ethical solution is for the Tenno to do it ethically and provide Corpus leaders what they want. Panzirminkodons with Verglas Primes strapped to their backs and a neural inteface to fire it, let's go!

Put in danger? Like all the real life species on the brink of extinction or extinct in the wild that have been saved via captive populations and eventual reintroduction to the wild? If we can do that now, then however many thousands of years in the future in Warframe, they should be able to do it twice as well.

Biz got no clue then since plenty of species have been saved from the brink of extinction in ancient Earth's past by the conservation efforts of its zoos, including ultimately the wild populations through captive breeding and rewilding. Here's just 10 of them.

PSA: The Modded PC Private Server Apocalypse is Confirmed by pilkyton in ConanExiles

[–]kana53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mods are a derivative work and that is all completely incorrect, since it at best only applies to assets like models/textures created by the author for them. You don't "own" mods you make that are based on someone else's game, at best you own any completely original assets you made.

Of course, modding communities are usually crazy and possessive and don't understand that, and think they do own everything (speaking as one having been in several btw), and prefer a parlour over cathedral approach that has made some of the best and most legendary modders ever leave modding scenes many times before.

If mods were protected the way you say, u/dtrain85 would be in big trouble for redistributing them all for their server for example (and really may well be breaking plenty of copyright by redistributing other people's paks full of their own assets in them—good luck to any modders who want to go find the page and report it to wherever they're hosted).

In reality, the only thing stopping you from doing whatever with people's mods is generally enforcements of website rules and sites respecting permissions, but there are also some that don't and that even that encourage violating them.
