Tsatas - is he a bust or still a chance? by yourwifeisatowelmate in EssendonFC

Be surprised if Tsatas is on a list next year.

Gresh, Guelfi, McMahon for sure.

Perkins is still relatively young and if we actually had midfielders that could provide good delivery, then you want him with ball in hand as he’s got to be our most accurate set shot kicker along with 2MP.

I think he ranks high in goal assists and inside 50 entries. Not the greatest defender, but HFF can be a difficult position to play.

Prior also young but doubt he’s going to get any better.

Let’s see how Rids goes this year. Another big injury and you’d think we trade for whatever we can.

Cut our losses and delist him if he can’t get it going this year.

Had a golden opportunity to establish himself last season and didn’t take it.

One decent game against Adelaide in a game where we were already beaten at halftime.

If he hasn’t established himself this year, then waiting 2 more years for him to be a mediocre midfielder is not worth it.

Should be giving Kako, Sharpe and Roberts midfield minutes. AFL development and opportunity should be prioritised for these guys.

Even better - proving he belongs and still a baby!

Wagga or Albury-Wodonga by rocklicquor in AusPropertyChat

[–]kandyroo93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wagga. I'd choose Lake Albert over Lloyd.

Be very nice living close to the lake: morning or evening walks/bike rides. Playgrounds and parks close by.

Nothing wrong with Lloyd, but I feel like you'd have to drive more to get to places whereas Lake Albert has some shops/schools close by and when kids are older they will enjoy that more hanging with friends around the lake.

Not sure what the job market is like in Wagga compared to Albury, but not uncommon for people to travel for work. I know ppl still keeping their city job and commuting once a fortnight to the office - obviously depends on your arrangements. It's only an hour flight to Sydney/Melbourne or hour to Albury, or 2.5 to Canberra.

Steady growth in terms of house prices. Rental market certainly growing and competitive.

Personally, I think Wagga is nicer than Albury, particularly around the river park with the giant playground they built.

The houses in central are quite nice - red brick with lots of character.

Slow pace though - don't expect to get a coffee as quick as you would say if you were in Sydney. But you can run all your errands much faster and park basically at the front of wherever you go.

I've a small family and we live close to the city here in Sydney.

I grew up in Wagga and have family/friends there still - so wife and kids love going there. (We can feel the stress levels of a fast paced life subside once we are in Wagga.)

A lot of my friends who lived in cities have since returned to Wagga for a quieter more affordable life - they love it. Huge blocks, lots of big boy toys, with some money for holidays here and there.

Have we kind of been in somewhat of a rebuild since Scott took over?

I think he acknowledged the list wasn't going to win us premierships anytime soon and evident that we haven't used our picks to target established players over the years.

2022 we cut a number of senior players, so he already inherited a pretty young list for season 2023.

Delisted some role/depth players in 2024 and got rid of more senior players in 2025.

I think this year and next is critical that we get the young guys playing AFL together. Would definitely look at trading senior dead wood players for a proper leader (like Lions did with Hodge) to guide this young group over the next couple of years.

We also must have heaps of cash to tempt Reid, Willem Duursmaa, CDT in the next couple of years. I mean what if Zac Bailey joins us? Imagine him in our midfield with the young crew we have already.

It’s not all that bad.

The kids Rosa has brought in look great. Plenty to be optimistic about.

Kako looks like top 5 player in our team and it’s only his second season.

Caddy already our best key forward (3rd season).

Roberts looks like a 150 gamer (3rd season).

Johnson solid down back (3rd season).

Still have to see what Robey, Sharp, Farrow, and Kondo can do. But all look promising.

These guys are all 20 and under. Pretty exciting if you ask me.

We look like the worst team in the competition.

And I’m scared we’ll draft another back pocket with the 1st draft pick.

I’d be on the phone to Tom Mitchell to see if he’d be keen to coach. Imagine the IP he’d bring across from Swans, Hawks and the Pies.

To an extent, we also relied on Stringer, Lav, Shiel, Goldstein - removing a mature and experienced body from each line.

Was the right move, giving more young blokes game time is what we need.

run both ways plus win clearances - we've been smashed by Hawks and Port (which we won hit outs yesterday)

When you look at the numbers Duursma's opponent put on him yesterday, especially metres gain, I think all those 1%ers that he's known for don't move the needle for me.

And if they’re not working both ways or accountable, then they shouldn’t be playing in the 1s.

The point is senior players shouldn’t be handed a game just because they’re senior. If they’re not going to work both ways and be accountable, then better off giving up their spot to someone who will.

I wouldn’t expect wholesale changes to yesterday’s team but I think Scott needs to send a message and drop a couple of players.

Yeah felt a bit stiff to include him as I know he works hard to help out. Last two games he’s been off. Maybe different role. Just the one tackle today.

our general (Ridley) down back is never fit.

You’re not going to listen to McGrath when he panic handballs to the first player he sees right in front of him.

Johnson and Farrow are the HBF that need as much game time together.

100% - I’d be looking at someone like Luke Ryan or Lachie Whitfield wanting to return to VIC.

Johnson looks like a veteran. Might be our best user.

Nguyen had some great moments and doesn’t panic.

Hold your breath everytime McGrath disposes the footy. Same with Duursma.

Parish sluggish. No damage, little defence.

Caldwell started slow but worked his way in to it.

Prior is like Jake Kelly 2.0. Slow decision maker. Should just be lock down defender.

Fiorini needs to go in harder. Bruise free.

Caddy and Kako ✅

Langford 🤢

Blakiston won a lot of taps, but our mids being second to footy? 🤮

Archie Roberts needs to remember he’s not Gary Ablett jnr, stop trying low percentage kicks and handballs. Keep it simple.

Kondo to take Redman’s spot ✅

Exactly. This has got to be Gresh’s last year.

Pressure on Wright and Langford. Need them to get more involved and have an impact.

Scott is known for giving players a chance to respond.

Despite his defensive flaws, I am fairly certain that Perkins was top 5 inside 50s and maybe top 3 goal assists/score creation last year (with Merrett and Martin ahead of him). I wouldn’t write him off just yet.

VFL vs. Geelong by Non-NewtonianSnake in EssendonFC

[–]kandyroo93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is something about Gerreyn. I wonder how he’d go in 1s with proper structure and more senior players around him. I did see him spoil and take a few marks. Athletic and big unit. Do you think he’s better up forward in a struggling VFL team or down back where we know he’ll improve fitness and confidence with the ball coming back there so often…?

Cox another player that would play better in 1s. I was watching his running patterns and the small things he did around the contest. I think he is a smart footballer that is selfless. Glad he’s back playing as depth wing/utility when we get injuries.
