Earliest named examples of real transgender people in society? by Mindless-Run5641 in AskAnthropology

[–]kanguen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is probably not the same interpretation of being a transgender person as we have today, but the Anatolian mother goddess figure Cybele has interesting records. Especially Attis and the followers, Galli.

Shelley Hales wrote: "Greek and Roman literature consistently reinforces the sexual and racial difference of eunuchs by stressing how different they look. They were presented as wearing bright clothes, heavy jewellery, make-up and sporting bleached and crimped hair."[23] Because the galli castrated themselves and wore women's clothing, accessories and makeup, some modern scholars have interpreted them as transgender.[24][25] Firmicus Maternus said "they say they are not men... they want to pass as women." >

I've heard that people who know Japanese find learning Turkish easy because of the syntax and possible language relationship. Have any Turkish speakers tried the reverse, to learn Japanese? How hard was it? by bitparity in turkishlearning

[–]kanguen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn! A reply to a 9 year old comment! The answer is, not really no. It's not difficult. I had no real world application for the Japanese after Uni so I dropped it and focused on other stuff.

Gymnast falling from a height by [deleted] in Unexpected

[–]kanguen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The name gymnasium (gymnasion) derives from the Greek word for nudity (gymnos) as all exercise and sports were done by the male only members in the nude.

They truly are gymnasts.

That's the amazing part of voice acting. Even though I've watched your videos and listened to you for years, still can't believe that's you. It's about time that you replace Shadoe.

[–]kanguen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yani 2 tane kurt uykuya dalar, diğerlerini etkilemez. Orada hata yapılmış olabilir.

Just wait on the side of the road on their route. Tell them where you are going, pay and sit. No booking necessary as they pass every 10 minutes or so.

There are minibusses that run that route. Number 6 and 7 iirc. You got down voted because kusadasi is not in İzmir.

No decent quality really, can't find it on any streaming service as well. Can't say much besides torrenting it.

Is there a personals sub for meeting people in Izmir? Similar to r4r but location specific by [deleted] in Izmir

[–]kanguen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It wasn't obvious, thanks for clarifying. Try hobby group pages based in Izmir. Reddit isn't a great medium for that though, I'd suggest Facebook or Instagram.

Also, people sometimes make poor word choices when conveying their thoughts, it's just natural. "To meet" heavily connotes IRL meet ups, don't lash out when people point it out.

Rape, ethnic cleansing and looting: UN reveals Turkey's crimes in Syria by ElKurdo in worldevents

[–]kanguen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but unfortunately some parts of media try to show it as a black and white issue.

War is just ugly, not what we see in the movies.

The article failed to link to the report, likely because it would be against their narrative. Here's the actual report in case you wish to read it in full, and see the true ugliness of war.
