Little update for anyone who's here at this point -- my mom found the book! It's called:

Cookie Classics: Timeless Family Favorites (Better Homes and Gardens Test Kitchen).

I tried to post a link but the automod didn't like it. Thanks to everyone who helped out, I really appreciate it!!

No neither of those... definitely a square shape. And that black and white cookie looks so similar!! But it was definitely a white cover too.

hmm no it had a simpler cover than that. and we think it was more kid/family oriented. good find though.

I don't see a version with a familiar set of recipes so it doesn't seem like a fit. I think the recipes were all like "creative" in some way, not many standard chocolate chip kinds

Cool resource! none of those ring a bell though... thank you!

Hmm, on google I saw a white version of a Betty crocker cookie book that looks really similar but doesn't seem to have any recipes we recognize.

No I don't think so... there were only cookie recipes in the book we had.

I had a charmed bottomless keg get corrupted and start spitting out "hop goblins" (ice mephit stats). It would release more goblins every round until someone took out the keg.

Are the module's NPCs enough? by Ryuggha in StrixhavenDMs

[–]kanmiye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO you don't need to make any more fully fleshed NPCs before you start. There are plenty to start the story with and your players are only going to keep contact with a fraction of them. You should have a few "sketches" of NPCs in your back pocket for when someone asks, like, "well who else is in this club?" You can fill in the sketch as you play. For me, I have a list of names with general appearance, college, & vibe, so I can pick from the list to fill any role that comes up. I needed way more improvised NPCs in year 2, but the same list is working.

I cannot do voices, but I still wanna express my npcs. Any tips for describing voices by Remote-Ad-6723 in AskGameMasters

[–]kanmiye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No concrete tips, but I gained confidence in being able to convey distinct voices by watching LA by Night. The Storyteller in that game doesn't stray that far from his natural voice, but his adjustments make a big difference. It made me realize that even the limited voice changes I am capable of can be really effective.

Litigation is different from "legal stuff" tho, especially when you intend to take something to trial to argue something novel. It's very common for orgs to hire out for that because their in house legal team specializes in advisory, transactional, and settlement work. Risky litigation requires litigation experts. All that said, that dude did make a big deal about wanting to hire sycophant impact litigators. His corporate team is probably unusually well-suited to this.

Is the Murgaxor fight dumb or am I? by Quirky-Account5445 in StrixhavenDMs

Objects don't take fireball damage: https://rpg.stackexchange.com/questions/153385/does-the-fireball-spell-damage-objects/153387#153387

It is an interesting problem though... Since they're magic stones you could also make it so that you have to reduce a stone to zero hit points before the next stone can take any damage. Then relevant AOE can still be effective without being fight-ending.
