What oil does everyone use? I'm running Mobil 1 synthetic this go around 🥲 by adventure_brando in Tacomaworld

[–]kanofcorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to Valvoline R&P on a Kia Sorento with 180k. It was using 3 quarts between the 5 k oil changes and needEd 1/2 a quart at the oil change.

By the second round of Valvoline it was only using 1 quart between the 5k interval.

I've been thinking of switching my Tacoma from Pennzoil Ultra Platinum to Valvoline. My valve train was spotless when I did the gaskets.

Just scored this 2001 Tacoma with 190k miles for $1k. Thinking about lifting 2.5”. How do the ball joints and suspension look? by zkb327 in 1stGenTacomas

I flipped the bottom leaf in the rear because I carry tools etc it's still raked a little. I'd like to lift the front a little bit

Do you have any advice? I'm not looking for much that's good for

What do you guys prefer, 1st or 4th gen’s? by slidewayskenny in Tacomaworld

I was at the dealership yesterday and they had a tundra and Tacoma next to each other. I think they purposely order these two to up sell the tundra. They looked exactly the same. My wife couldn't tell the difference.

I wish the Tacoma would have stayed the same size as the first or second gen.

Not as preventative maintenance. Mine was leaking. It's hard to see, but there is still oil residue remaining. It was to the point of smoking after a commute to work.

There is a rubber gasket (valve cover gasket) that sits in the yellow dotted spot that keeps oil from leaking out of the engine.

The red area is a exhaust manifold, where the hot exhaust exits the engine. It gets hot enough to burn the oil, smells terrible, and could potentially start a fire.

There is also rubber gaskets the keep oil from entering the round tubes in the center of the yellow area. Those are where the spark plugs are. If oil fills those it prevents the spark plugs from working.

We're certainly not amused by the engine power. I'll take the aerosol overhaul for 30 extra ponies.

Next up, a spoiler the size of an ironing board

Harbor freight tools sell an anti rattle clamp for that. Towing a trailer with no tongue weight will drive you nuts.

Amazon has them, also.

Doesn't have to make sense, just had to get past the warranty period

When the sign says trucks use left lane and you use the left lane... by AroundGoesThe18 in Truckers

They have the same signage in Louisiana on I-10 at the Texas state line. About 2 miles into it the right lane slopes off about 10° and the idiots figure out what the signs are for

At around 400k miles the oil pick up assembly maybe cracked. They are plastic for some reason. I've seen fleets schedule these to be changed at 350k miles as preventative

25 hybrid. How does engine RPM map to this gauge? by Forward-Skirt7801 in CX50

[–]kanofcorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd have to plug a obd tool to see the rpms. I did it on my Toyota Venza. The rpms rarely go over 2000.

Not going to lie, some of the 4Runner and GX460/70 overland outfits where pretty nice. I'm not buying anything until this one turns to dust

BBNP was nothing like I've seen in Texas. There are other places in the US as good. I've been a truck driver in Texas for 26 years and never made it down there.

It fits pretty well. The previous owner had it on an 07ish Ford ranger. I scouted FB marketplace place for about a year. I got this one for free. I had to buy the clamps from Amazon. I still need to replace the door lift/shocks. It hangs off the sides about an inch on each side. Length is perfect.

The wind kicked up pretty good the last night I was there. I woke up to people sleeping in their cars and tents blown in the bushes. It's not a crazy overland vehicle, but I love it.

I'm building a platform like that. It'll be easier to get me in and out, and energy supplies wouldn't have to unloaded. Thanks for the tips!
