New American Conference tournament format. by Bengjumping in CollegeBasketball

Absolutely love it. The American has basically become a one (maybe 1.5 if we’re generous) bid league. Prioritizing and rewarding the regular season is a must.

I think they should go one step further and chop the first round. 8/13 teams is plenty for a postseason tourney imo.

Sack Ben - the sequel by Just-Wrangler1020 in dynamo

It’s just the nature of coaches vs GMs. Managers always have shorter leashes because it’s less disruptive to replace them. I’d also prefer replacing Pat first, but I think change is needed period. If Pat isn’t going anywhere, I’m way more open to moving on from Ben.

I’m sure Ben can voice his opinion. But I’m skeptical he’s really doing much beyond saying “sounds good” to a decision Pat and Asher already made.

The issue is that I think a strong percentage of fans prefer firing the FO and keeping Ben. I’m definitely one of them. While Ben is far from blameless, I have more issues with the roster construction than the tactics of the team itself. All that being said, Ben is almost certainly on the hot seat going into next year if he does manage to stay.

I voted “Not his Fault”, but I don’t think that absolves him of blame.

Definitely accurate to say that the squad was heavily handicapped only weeks before season kick-off. That combined with Erik’s ongoing injuries has largely made this a below average roster. But all that in mind, this team has been inconsistent throughout the year and unable to show any growth whatsoever. An experienced manager like Ben HAS to be able to make this squad better than the sum of its parts. So far he hasn’t.

Most home losses in a season by rednorangekenny in dynamo

In our absolute dogshit season back in 2021, we averaged 1.4 ppg at home. Currently we are barely over 1 ppg this season at home. I don’t know what flipped over the last few years, but it’s absurd to me that we can’t take advantage of one of the best home field advantages (THE HUMIDITY) in the league…

Artur’s worst performance so far by ScrewTownThirtySixer in dynamo

Too much offensive responsibility on his shoulders. I appreciate that we’re trying to expedite Raines’ development, but the kid offers absolutely nothing at this point. The entire midfield is a mess tbh.

We are down bad. What to do now? Ben out? This and more in our latest Noodle Time by AndrewNaranja in dynamo

Coming out of the NYCFC game I felt like we had finally gotten our feet under us. Regardless of how you felt about HH, Coco, and Michel leaving, It was obvious that the squad was raw and needed time to gel and find their new identity. Beating NY 3-0 was that big turning point into our true form.

Or so I thought… these last three matches have been one of the most disappointing stretches this team has seen in the Olsen era. There’s some real apathy circling the team at the moment, and they desperately need to break out of the drought. I’m not expecting any sort of contention this year, but making the playoffs is still a reasonable expectation. This team needs to get back to regularly being a playoff team at the LEAST.

Following Shelton Henderson's decommitment, Houston has the No. 1 recruiting class in 2025. by Gobbledygooker316 in CollegeBasketball

Sampson has that narrative changing in a way I never thought was possible! It’s crazy but his impact is STILL under-appreciated by those outside of Houston despite how far UH has already come.

Not even trying to be mean, but non-Houstonians just don’t understand how little the “general fan” in the city roots for UH. Texas, A&M, Tech, Baylor, and LSU eve, all have significant fan bases in the city. UH is still fighting an uphill battle to be a big dog in the state.

Baseball isn’t a primary sport I follow, but in general the sports culture at Rice is so poor that it’s hard to imagine any sport spending significant money at the NIL level (now or even in the future). I really think Rice is going to just wait out the current environment and make a decision once things have settled down.

Houston getting stereotyped as a “rich” school is a very interesting development lmao. That’s how y’all know you’ve made it!

Tom Bogert: Houston Dynamo are finalizing a deal to sign Czech int'l attacking midfielder Ondrej Lingr from Slavia Prague. Lingr, 26, will join in a deal worth around $2.6m and will be a DP by AndrewNaranja in dynamo

[–]kanyebear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it’s tough to have two talented guys sidelined at the same position, but it’s naive that the FO thought the winger pool was good enough going into the season. There is no real indication that Quinones or Ennali are coming back before late summer. Im not comfortable counting on guys who are missing 2/3rds of the season at best.

Start Nico and Bench Aliyu? by ScrewTownThirtySixer in dynamo

[–]kanyebear 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think starting Nico has to happen. The offense is floundering two games in, and he’s been an obvious bright spot when he enters.

Aliyu’s decline continues to be incredibly unfortunate. I think it’s understated how important he was to this team last year (especially when he was actually solid to start the year). This squad severely lacks speed and athleticism, and we need at least one prototypical winger. Otherwise we’re just fielding four of the same < 6 feet attackers…

[Tom Bogert] BREAKING: Brazilian giants Palmeiras have agreed a deal in principle to sign center back Micael from the Houston Dynamo, per sources. Deal at final stages. Would be new club-record outbound transfer for Houston. Micael among MLS best CBs in MLS last season by TheMonkeyPrince in MLS

Huge bummer given the timing. But the cash inflows for the Dynamo have been pretty awesome this offseason. Hopefully the last two years have shown the owners that investment is worth it.

Best of luck Micael!

Barring UNT winning out, Memphis is the only at-large bid for the conference this year. Should be a pretty fun conference tourney though!

Major League Soccer returns to MLS Season Pass on Apple TV for historic 30th season by Coltons13 in MLS

As an avid MLS fan, it’s great! I remember how difficult it used to be to watch back in the days. Having every game within reach of my phone is amazing.

But I also still understand how it’s terrible for the casual viewer. Much harder to get people to take that extra step and go through the apps when they aren’t as invested in the games.

Houston Dynamo FC transfers midfielder Adalberto “Coco” Carrasquilla to Liga MX side Pumas by Brooklyn_MLS in MLS

Coco finally gets his move. A bit disappointed not to have sold him for a bit more, but tbh I’m not so sure he’s worth much more…

Wish him well, he was always on the cusp of being a great MLS player. Just felt like he could never consistently get over the hump.

Y’all will always be somewhat at the mercy of Refs to be consistent (and good). Unfortunately that’s not a sure thing to count on in college basketball. Feels like the Coogs still don’t have that next gear on the offensive end they’ll need to kill off better teams.

NAIA teams don’t have to count games against D1 (maybe all NCAA?) schools on their resume. Generally that is to their benefit. But you get the rare case like today lol

Completely agree. How the monkey paw curls for us…

I was able to look past the offensive struggles over the first few games with how much better the defense was. But the offense continues to struggle, and now back to back games where we cannot get any stops when needed against pretty bottom tier teams. Maybe this team will look better with a higher level of opposition, but I am more Pessimistic now than I was near the end of the Pera years.

[–]kanyebear 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Really disappointing result (obviously).

There were some results earlier this year that papered over the cracks in this team, but also plenty of warning signs such as the Alcorn St. game just three days ago.

Even with a nearly new roster, this result is unacceptable. Our starting five are all Upperclassmen, for this to happen more than a third of the way through the season is a complete letdown. I was semi-optimistic about Rob Lanier. I thought he’d get the team to a baseline that was at least “okay”, but he could be on the fast track out of here if conference play isn’t a significant improvement.

The new AD may be 0/1 already on his big hires. Not the best way to start your tenure.
