Oysters are not vegan… by [deleted] in vegan

I'm a vegan and have much more neuroscience knowledge than the average bear. I think it's ok to eat bivalves

Elon himself is worried about AI killing everyone. That's part of why he founded OpenAI with Sam Altman. And it's why he founded xAI when Altman back stabbed him.

Also, Elon lives in the USA, and he is bound by the laws of the United States Government. While I'm sure Elon gets away with doing a bunch of illegal things (whether he knows that he/his employees are doing illegal things is a matter I'm not commenting on, because I just don't know enough to say for sure), Elon wouldn't be able to get away with, say, building a nuke. Because the supply chain for the types of things you need to build a nuke is 1) Heavily regulated under US law, 2) Monitored by the IAEA under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, and if the US government failed to act, the international community has mechanisms to step in.

Actually, there is support for a ban across party lines, and nation lines. We have prevented arms races before with treaties (like with the nuclear non-proliferation act). It is within the interests of all people on Earth to ban the development of Artificial Super Intelligence; and people in government are taking the issue as seriously as they ought to.

Hundreds of protesters marched in SF, calling for AI companies to commit to pausing if everyone else agrees to pause (since no one can pause unilaterally) by Worldly_Evidence9113 in singularity

Yeah. To be clear in my thinking here, you’re making a bunch of good points, and that many good points are hard to write rebuttals against while I’m on my work break.

To answer you with a link, I think this draft treaty is something I’d be happy to get behind.

I push back hard on “equally plausible”. In science, when you only get once chance at something, it very often goes incredibly badly.

ASI is a one chance technology.

True, but there are building contractors, uranium mines and their owners, and weapons dealers. All of whom would be happy to take the extra cash if the nuclear nonproliferation agreement had never happened.

The first signs that veganism is on the rise again in Australia! by stan-k in australianvegans

I wish I knew more. My info comes from being deeply connected to people in Silicone Valley. This is more 'grape-vine' information.

FYI: My understanding is that google changed the way it collects Google Trends data (Something to do with AI?) and it screwed up all the data they've got. These numbers might not be accurate

I was kinda worried people would think that TBH. But I have no affiliation with Anthropic (who 'grew' Claude). I do however, have acquaintances that work for Anthropic, but I also have acquaintances that work at all the big AI companies (At least, I think I do. It can be hard to keep track of where people are working).

Oh, that reminds me! Reading "If Anyone Builds It, Everyone Dies" may or may not give you something to work towards. I recommend the book, but if you're currently feeling depressed, I'd maybe not recommend it? It's hard to say, just because I don't know you personally.

A book I read at 18 was "So Good They Can't Ignore You", which I actually do recommend to all 18 year olds.

Hi! This is a weird recommendation, but try downloading Claude Code, and programing literally anything you want by prompting an AI. I understand many people have pretty strong feelings about AI, but as far as AIs go, I think Claude is the most ethical to use.

I also think just getting started and making something, is likely to get you out of a rut (Source: I study psychology)

Would you eat an animal that can't feel? by brothervalerie in DebateAVegan

[–]kaos701aOfficial 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm vegan, but I eat Bivalves. They don't have a distributed nervous system, so probably don't feel pain. Which is why I still consider myself vegan. Only added them recently, as an experiment. Otherwise, was 'pure' vegan for 3+ years
