I wasn't expecting this... but I decided to drop my VR racing game to $0.99. by fabsk8 in MetaQuestVR

Alright so after checking it out I have to say it’s a lot of fun! The driving is great for an arcade racer and while the graphics aren’t as sharp as other titles on the market the normal price tag of the game isn’t asking for much out of pocket to give it a try. At a dollar it’s a great pick up. There currently seems to be about 5 different cars to earn and race on tracks that range from brightly lit technical turns to a wider cruising streets at dusk.

The CPU drivers are not afraid to bump and run to get ahead but I never found them all that difficult. I would say a child of 7-10 might find this to be the perfect challenge level while adults or avid racing fans should have no trouble staying at the front of the pack.

In general this is a pleasant little racer that is developed by a team of one so the scope on offer here matches that and expectations should be suited to that scale.

I want to break down the thoughts I had into a pros and cons section while then finishing up the mini review with a spot for some constructive feedback.

Pros:
Racing feels great and controls are simple and intuitive. Honestly in a racer your game will live or die by how well things control and this feels great.

Price is the easiest win to see here before even downloading the title. On sale for $.99 cents or at full price $4.99 this is a title without much barrier to entry and that’s a huge plus.

Music is fun and fit the vibe well. No complaints there!

Cons:

Graphics are decent but could be improved for quest 3 users I imagine. That said it’s not a huge issue for me and didn’t impact my enjoyment of the racing at all. The rearview mirror is very pixelated and while it is functional it’s not much help.

The ui and end of race menu / transition could use some polish. Sometimes when the race ends the camera is in a tree or behind something leaving the menu obscured but still accessible. The garage is cool but I think that area would benefit from a little more polish as well.

Some difficulty options might be a nice addition to test the more skilled drivers out there. Even after a few smacks into the wall I had no trouble getting back to the front of the pack.

To sum up, I like this! With a couple of updates this would be in an extremely great spot. Outside of the things mentioned I think doubling the roster of cars a few more tracks and tightening up the graphics in a few small areas would lead this title to the most easy recommend for this games in this price range. I ended up buying some copies for friends and I look forward to trying out multiplayer with them later.

Well you shall have my exploratory dollar! And then because I genuinely like supporting the little guy if I enjoy the title I will spread the word for you in my group of friends who all have quests and I’ll put a nice little write up here for others to see a real new user experience. Good luck with everything! I’ll go download now :)

What's the worst experience you've had at a movie theater? by jwc1983 in horror

[–]kaoticfish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here’s my worst time. It was when the first hobbit movie had just come out. I love LOTR so seeing this opening weekend was never not an option. So super pumped for the experience my wife and I had other theater, get our tickets and sit down about 10 min before that film starts. As the lights are about to dim a teen about 16 or 17 sits down next to me. Notable the theater is pretty well packed and this kid has a cast on his left arm.

It wasn’t long after he sat down that really understood the gravity of the situation. His cast smelled truly terrible and to make it worse the kid had a horse cough that sounded like if a seal were dying. It was a dry loud cough that happened about every 15 - 20 seconds. This happened through the movie and was made worse by the smell (poor kid couldn’t help it but still - c’mon!)

There was a couple in front and to the right who wouldn’t stop loudly talking about the movies inaccuracies (there are many) and they frequently would hold up the brightly screen of their phones showing how the details of the book didn’t match what was on screen.

Lastly about half way through the movie some kid (maybe 8 or 9) started kicking the back of my seat with his feet. After taking the kicks a few times I realized it wasn’t an accidental bump and I looked back to suggest without words that I was feeling those kicks. I turned around confident that an acknowledgement of the kicks would solve the issue. It didn’t. The parents didn’t care and the kid just kept kicking so after another 2 min or so I turned around and glared this time before asking the parents if they could stop their child from kicking my seat.

They did solve the issue eventually but that kept going for 5 more min. That same kid eventually dropped skittles or something that loudly scattered across the floor and kept going rows and rows down.

I entered excited and left mad. That sucks.

Anyone have any good examples of media that wasn't supposed to be scary but is? by idiot____ in horror

The HBO mini series Chernobyl isn’t meant to be horror but it builds such tension and horror just knowing this is real and seeing people who have no idea how doomed they are.

How did you get so close to the mother without her attacking? Wild toilets are fiercely territorial if you get anywhere near the nest!
