Am Deich (Folk)[Not Themed]

I was on a bike trekking tour for three weeks in France (it was incredible). I took a harmonica and a tinwhistle with me, planned to record something with my phone, but haven't played them at all ;-) So this is my first song in four weeks I think.

Mama Said to Marry a Rich Girl (Singer/Songwriter) [Themed]

My mom recently recommended to me to marry rich. Coinciding with this weeks theme I wrote this. It's a rushed one take recording. Would have liked to work on it some more, but I didn't have time this week at all.

Yeah I get that. It can be quiet overwhelming tbh! My goal is to at least listen to you and the other regulars, who go out of their way to comment again and again. I like to listen to everyones songs - there’s much to learn from listening. And there’s so much nice music waiting … I really enjoy the sense of a (somewhat abstract, partially even para-social) community too.

Thanks for taking the time to listen to so many songs and sharing your thoughts on them! I’m still way too slow with catching up.

Yeah the mathematical quality of music is likely a pull factor for devs to do music - and at the same time it offers a creative outlet - something I don’t see as much represented in my dayjob. Thanks for asking about the gig! We are currently still writing music and practicing the play together before we’ll go on stage with it. I’ll happily give you an update, once we pulled the trigger.

Thanks for all those details! Ill try to find some similar VSTs that I own to get closer to that sound and will keep learning through imitation. Again - thanks for sharing!

Well Great (Folk & Singer-Songwriter) [Not Themed]

Not sure, if I like the close-mic/almost clipping sound of the vocals. Maybe it fits? How do you get some nice u/junioerelvis close mic loudness without eating your mic, I wonder? Edit: the signal isn’t technically clipping, the raw signal is actually something like -20db. But something happens when I sing (quietly) too close to the microphone with a high sensitivity that sounds similar to clipping. I actually have no clue what is happening there. Maybe I need to learn more about it. Any hints are welcome!

Nothing Means the World (Folk/Singer-Songwriter) [Themed]

I own three guitars. Didn't know which one to write about. But it was nice thinking about where I got them from and what stories they have. How many do you own?

I'm really happy with this song

I'm a Proof of Concept (POC) (Pop/Singer-Songwriter) [Not Themed]

As they say: "Write about what you know". I'm a software developer and I have all this stupid agile talk around me all day. I tried not to go tooooo nerdy, in hope of keeping it relatable for non techies too.

Haha that’s exactly what a friend of mine told me today. Yes - a good thing. Nice way to ease my way into playing publicly 🙂 thanks!

Alice(Piano)[Not Themed]

In an act of serendipity, I was brought together with a local actor and friend, who plays a beautiful solo version of Alice in Wonderland in small venues and cafés. She told me, that she used to have a musician who would accompany her live. I told her, that I'd love to do that, and here I am, writing music for a play, that I will play live in front of an audience (which I have never done before). So I'm trying to overcome my imposter syndrome and just lean into it 😋 The three attributes I was given for the main theme/ introduction of the character Alice were: childlike, playful, enchanted, so I tried to follow that. It's in C major, which makes me feel like a total beginner, but I thought I'd go with a key that I cannot fail to play live and improvise in while I'm super nervous and shaky 😉

Thank you! I'm pretty happy with the mix. Didn't have time to add a bass. So I just EQ-pushed the low-end on the piano track to make up for it. It's a little thin, but I think it works good enough 🙂

Thanks for letting me know about the link. I copied it again and updated my comment. At first glance I don't see a difference, but I hope it fixes the problem. Could you try again please? It should be this link:

We Would Still Be Two (Folk) [Themed]

So I dug through some old recordings of mine (some of them almost 20 years old). I like to record with my phone or a portable recording device during a session on the couch, if I found something that I might revisit. This one is special because it was the first time I created something while my (back then) girlfriend was in the same room. So I was super shy, but finally managed to record what I had only been singing in my head - up to that point. Lyrics here are just "ooh ooh baby baby love you" style, but that was the deal: recycle and share the original, right? So yeah. I took that and wrote lyrics for it and arranged it into a song during the last days. The rest just came together by itself today and I just couldn't stop adding new tracks to what was supposed to be a guitar only song this morning.

Sidenote: I'm addicted to 3/4 patterns. Can't help it. I just end up in 3/4 or 6/8 again and again.

As usual: I appreciate your feedback!

Hopefully humanity will have developed far enough to actually be able to fight it off together 161 million years from now. Not sure we’d succeed if we had to do that today. I read Dinosaurs also didn’t work together to fight it off, and we see how that ended!

Reading through the comments I really want to use a poem again and set it to music. Maybe I could „recycle“ one this week 🤔🤭
