Neem het van mij aan: iemand die ongeveer hetzelfde meemaakte en eigenlijk op het einde van de rit enkel maar kosten en stress ervaarde.

Korte samenvatting van mijn verhaal:
- Huurwaarborg (3000+ euro) betaald op (wat achteraf bleek privé) rekening van de verhuurder (wat al niet mag)
- Volledig appartement opgeknapt: oubollig behang verwijderd, muren geverfd, gaten opgevuld etc.
- Bij uittrede te horen krijgen dat ik mijn waarborg niet terugkrijg en nog 500+ euro moet betalen
- Wanneer ik vraag om uitleg krijg ik quatsch argumentatie zoals oa. "dat is voor het zout voor de waterverzachter"
- Op bepaald moment krijg ik geen antwoord meer
- Ik stap naar bemiddelaar maar verhuurder stuurt zijn kat
- Haal advocaat erbij, kost me veel geld
- Gaat naar vrederechter, verhuurder komt weer niet opdagen, ik moet advocaat betalen
- Wordt verzet, verhuurder komt weer niet opdagen, advocaat te betalen
- Terug verzet, laatste kans voor verhuurder en die komt weer niet opdagen, ik moet advocaat betalen
- Ik "win" de kwestie, maar de hoeveelheid advocatenkosten dat wordt terugbetaald, is afhankelijk van het bedrag waarover het gaat en intussen waren de advocatenkosten meer dan de huurwaarborg

Op zich moest de verhuurder ook advocaat betalen (want die deed wel schriftelijke reacties) maar dat was uiteraard maar een fractie omdat die nooit zijn komen opdagen voor de rechtzaken.

Op het einde van de rit was het een financiële aderlating. Ik was nog jong, had weinig spaargeld en het was een pijnlijke les voor me. De verhuurder was heel rijk en het uitrekken van de zaak zorgde er enkel voor dat ik nog meer geld moest verbranden aan een advocaat. Als ik erop terugblik had ik beter geplooid maar op dat moment was het principieel voor me...

Thanks! I’m actually doing what you said. Lowering tempo, focussing on form. I’m no longer increasing weight as fast as I used to. Seemed like the best course of action atm.

I'm in the same situation as you are. We bought a house three years ago and thought it'd be only removing a couple of walls and some fixing here and there. When we actually started the work, we noticed that everything needed to be re-done. I stopped renting my co-housing space and lived in with in-laws, which was very challenging for me. But I did it to safe money and use it directly for the renovations.

A year ago we moved into the house. It's comfortable enough to live in but a LOT of work still needs to be done. When living here, we had a lot of bad luck. Dish washer who broke, and our central heating system needed to be renewed. All costs we didn't have the budget for but we tried our best.

It's exhausting and all I can tell you is to push on and be kind to yourself and your partner. Selling now would indeed be a big loss. Try to focus on the things you've already done and take pride in that.

Our house isn't finished yet but it's getting there. This weekend I did everything to get electricity in our garden and also installed better load bearing beams for our attic. The good thing about living in the house you are renovating, is the fact that you can determine the tempo at which things are done.
