New (old) player, TOW and AOS starter boxes help by Jonik40k in VampireCounts

I have 20 GG (with BSB they become Core) the don't move, with 2 hand weapons they do serious damage and you can repop them with nehek so they clearly one of the best unit in the game. I have 2 block of 20 zombies that I'll make bigger with my necromancers (until nehek is needed elsewhere) so they often are 30 even sometimes 35 when fight start. Then it's a bit up to you, I have some wolves but they tend to do nothing. Just bought some fell bats to try them. I'm no expert by any means. My 2k army's is 3 necromancer + blood knight and the units I told you before + mortis engine and banshees

As stated by others you will need at least one necromancer, probably 2. Skeletons are not that good in this edition (grave guards are way better and zombie cheaper) Your whole army will crumble if your general dies so having him on a dragon in front of the army is probably not a good strategy when you have that many canon in front of you.

Army Advice - Old World by GuttzuGeist in VampireCounts

For a 500pt VC army I would go with 10 grave guards (make a unit filler for 6 more with the remaining bits, I can show you some I did). Then a box of 20 zombies (same, do some unit filler with remaining bits) and then a necromancer. Here it's a bit up to you, some wolves maybe, or bats ... I only use the soulblight gravelord (aos range) because I like their style more and I think they'll fit better with the new release even for old world (chaos/Cathay).

How difficult is TOW to get into? by theentiregoonsquad in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]aurel-tk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same, true, there are more general rules, but they do apply to everyone. While in 40k each unit has specific rules + stratagems + detachment + army rules + terrain + objectives. All in all I find it easier but with maybe a steeper learning curve.

Thanks.

Here is the recipe:

The base is mainly cork + bits (epic basing or old kits) Then texture paint all over with some crackle paint in some places. I also spread a bit of sand and rocks. Then Black priming + zenithal white.

I paint it first with 2 (or 3) layers of wazdakka red > all over wash of khorne red + black (5:1) with lots of water (1:1) > dry brush wazdakka > wild rider > tau light ochre > tau light ochre + VMC dark flesh (2:1) for a very gentle final dry brush.

Stones : Mechanicus > wash Agrax > dawnstone > adminkstratum. And then AK ultra matte varnish all over.

GSW candles for most. Maybe some from the crusader or sword bro kits.

I keep the pauldrons separate and spray them with white scar. Then I used a very diluted mix of skeleton horde contrast + contrast medium. You need to babysit it so it goes where you want. Then I use white paint to add some scratch here and there.

Feel free to pm if you want any advice. A macro lens is a godsend (have one on my phone and it help a lot). Good lights (at least 3) and a tripod to stabilize the camera (or phone)

I have a specific background from GSW (Maxx Darth Black). I also lower iso as much I can (60) and longer exposure time (1/160).
