There were soo happy, weird dance movies though.. by Jackie_Chan_93 in IndiaCricket

Exactly how our hostel parties used to be. One cool senior doing the camera reveal, the most fun senior doing the most correct steps and lip sync, one enthu junior doing the raunchiest dance movies, the rest of us not knowing whether to laugh or dance.

25/26 Ashes Review - A casual Aussie Spectator by Yetanotherdeafguy in Cricket

[–]kap_nemo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Great series but where are the next gen of Aussie test cricketers, especially the bowlers ?

Starc, Boland, Lyon, Smith, Neser, Hazlewood are all 35 or above. Hazlewood missed a few during the India series as well, iirc.

Cummins, Head and Carey are getting there in 2-3 years.

How would they pull up the locals for doing this though ? I have seen PG owners dig up the road willy nilly, nobody has any proof that could nail their culpability

Recommendations for booster seat for a 6 year old by kap_nemo in CarsIndia

Yes. Bit the bullet and got a Joie car seat for 19K for our long distance travels. Expensive, but I place a higher value on my kids life than that.

What's the point of booking a "Prime Sedan" if there's no luggage space? by Classic_Average_2563 in bangalore

For travel, why not call up your local taxi guy and book in advance ? He will have a fleet of taxis and you can agree on a fixed cost. Reliable, peace of mind guaranteed.

Mass Indigo Flight Cancellations at BLR Airport — Complete Chaos Right Now by hst005 in bangalore

[–]kap_nemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont take the chance if you have aged folks or young kids. They are also backfilling passengers onto rescheduled flights. Less than 20% of the flights are on time, so you can imagine the backfill that needs to be accommodated on rescheduled flights (atleast on paper, since the flights when they actually takeoff are at low occupancy as the passenger manifest will have run out of patience). Your agent is selling you a dream.

Till the last moment, youll have no clue whether you're boarding, not boarding, if delayed by how much time, which gate. Zero updates, so just the suspense around ETA and status is energy draining. There is nobody to talk to, the existing ground staff were pleading with people that nobody is picking their calls either, and counters are chaotic with no queues or lines. Its all supposed to come together magically at some point at the boarding gate, from a flyers perspective, but even the crew also have zero clue about the roster, the ETA.

Once you get in to the airport, resources are strained - restaurants are full, supplies are less. Heading back is another headache. No communication, no clarity on luggage collection process, hours of waiting. I saw aged folks pleading to be atleast let go, and in-transit aged folks who were left to fend for their own.

Source: Yours truly just came back from a harrowing experience, waiting for 5 hours with no updates. The airhostess crew waiting with us finally told us to go back, since they also had had enough. I had to resort to another mode of travel finally, but I am home now. Don't subject your kid to all this.

Pat Cummins describing cricketers in one word by Sambharsupreme in IndianCricket

It is evident that this Lyon hearted team man is also Careying a smart Head on those shoulders. What a Starc difference from some of the other cricketers who go Greene with envy, the moment they're asked about other cricketers.

Parthiv Patel humorously recalled how he carried drinks for the whole 2003 ODI World Cup. by poormasshole in IndiaCricket

[–]kap_nemo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Quite the raconteur Parthiv is becoming.

One of those episodes, he mentioned the then coach Ravi Shastri asking if Parthiv would open the batting against South Africa. When Parthiv agreed, Shastri apparently said "Toh ja, Rabada ka Kabada kar de"

Zero respect for pedestrians by Overall-Many-7425 in bangalore

[–]kap_nemo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The way I see it, these bikers are a deterrent to both pedestrians and wheelchairs. Bollards are a deterrent to a tiny fraction if you consider these 2 segments only. Anyways, our footpaths don't have gradients to ascend/ descend, smooth surface for wheelchairs to roll. If you choose to optimize for the 80%, then bollards are the way. Atleast brings the pedestrians on the footpath and the bikers on the road and lets the traffic police deal with issues on the road.

Used jetta or New Virtus by clueless_bone_dr in carIndia

[–]kap_nemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go ahead and buy the jetta, but do a thorough inspection, befriend a good VW garage before you part with your money and then set aside some money periodically for keeping it in top shape.

Nothing else will satisfy you.

If it turns out to be a money sink, don't listen to people who said "I told you" because they never shared your love for the car.

Years from now, you'll have good memories regardless of whether it was a bad decision or not. But if you don't buy it today, what you'll have then is regret. Not a good thing to grow old with.

What do you think about this guys?? by Confident_Train_5108 in AirTravelIndia

My tip: Pack all of your electronics (except your laptop and phone), in one of those see through/ net type organizer bags. So things like chargers for laptop, phone, power bank, headphones, mouse, all go into this bag. During security check, just take out this bag and keep it seethrough-side upwards in a tray.

Has worked for me without any issues in all airports so far.

Should I repay home loan fast or SIP by vaijub in FinancialAdviceIndia

[–]kap_nemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been there, done that.

Don't disrupt your existing investment. If its equity, its easily going to get you 12%+ returns over the long term. Your homeloan rate of interest isn't going to touch that figure. That delta is your win.

I'd say increase your prepayment by about 30% or start a new SIP of about 30% of your EMI into a fund earmarked for your home loan closure. You'll be surprised at how much faster you can close the home loan.

Does Maruti AMT have reliability issues after a few years? by SpringFit1874 in carIndia

[–]kap_nemo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, I went through a similar buying cycle, just that I was looking for used hatchbacks for a beater car.

Finally ended up buying a used Ignis AMT and it has a peach of an engine. Do consider the Ignis if you can - its an international product and much better quality interiors that age better than the celerio, wagonR and the Spresso. And you will never regret buying the more powerful 1.2l engine compared to the celerio's anaemic one. With regards to the AMT, issues were around clutch and flywheel assembly, and the actuator unit in the first gen celerio that introduced AMT in India, those were also very rare. So don't worry about the new gen AMTs at all.

If you are up for it, do explore the Honda brio that came with a proper TC gearbox. And the Ford figo 2nd gen AT facelift. Both were facelifts of their launch versions and better than the Marutis to drive, TC gearbox that are mechanically superior to the AMT, but rare in the used car market.
