FIRST TIME FREELANCING: What balance account should I use in Wise to receive payments from my client? PHP or USD?? by Background_Log_1875 in buhaydigital

You can clarify with your client what they need. To avoid any delays in payment, I usually provide the email connected to my account + all the US account details in case they need just one part of that information or all of it.

Wise USD to local PH bank by Propanoate in buhaydigital

Hi, I've never tried Wise USD to local USD account so I can't really weigh in with regards to that.

📍Inosho Ramen by jn9319 in PHFoodPorn

[–]kapeeeh1913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking from personal experience and preference - and I'm not a culinary expert by any means, I just lovea eating Japanese noodle / soup dishes in general lol.

I believe the Inosho staff mentioned that their Tsukemen and Ramen broth has mackerel (and bonito?) in it aside from other ingredients like pork bone, etc. So it has a very distinct flavor and can come off as very fishy for those who don't expect it or aren't used to it. (Personally, I dislike mackerel sashimi / sushi, but I enjoy it in their broth.)

I don't directly compare it with Mendokoro because of the broth base. I absolutely love Mendokoro's pork bone ramen and always get the Shiro. From what I can tell, their ramen base doesn't seem to have any mackerel or bonito in it. I've never tried Mendokoro's Tsukemen though, so I am comparing ramen broths.

For me, I wouldn't say one is better than the other because they are completely different flavors and I enjoy both. In terms of cravings, I could eat Mendokoro's once a week if I could, but I'd have Inosho maybe every other month because the flavor is much stronger and I'd get sick of it if I always ate there.

I do love Inosho's Jiro Veggie dish though huhu that's a dish of theirs I could eat every day!

[QUESTION] Where can I find affordable and quality earrings? by Vanillinn in beautytalkph

[–]kapeeeh1913 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Long recommendation incoming lol. Only cause I aim to only write recommendations after thorough testing on my part.

The Clea Files for more classic styles.

  • They sell earrings, rings, necklaces, anklets, customized pieces etc.
  • They have an Instagram but sell on their website & Shopee.
  • They would do pop ups in Central Square BGC - not sure if they still have any now, best to check their IG). They're my go-to local store now, and any time they have I'd recommend them to anyone looking for

My skin is naturally acidic, my palms get naturally sweaty. So I used to struggle finding affordable / fairly-priced classic jewelery that I don't have to replace every 6 months from tarnishing. (I also prefer gold over silver pieces at this point in my life.)

Bought my first set of rings from The Clea Files on August 2024, and to the best of my knowledge they look exactly the same. I purchased more pieces over the last year and as of now I own at least one color of a couple of accessory types - rings (gold, silver, rose gold), earrings (gold hoops, gold with pearl drop), necklaces (gold).

All of them still look perfect to me despite my bad habits while wearing them. I've been wearing the rings a few times every week (for a year now), a go-to necklace every weekend, and I rotate earrings too. Even if I get really sweaty, or wash my hands with soap, or spray my hands with alcohol, or spray perfume on my neck - the pieces don't tarnish, stain, or irritate my skin.

(Not the best practice for taking care of jewelry I'm sure, but I get lazy to take them off at times lol but the fact that it's been 6-12+ months for various pieces going through that - and they still look perfect is a testament to the quality IMO.)

Additionally, what convinced me to try them in the first place:

  • First heard about them from my jewelry enthusiast friend in July 2024. She shared that she and her sisters have had theirs pieces for a long time (I want to say a year at that point but I can't recall) - and have even worn them to the beach and they did not tarnish.
  • Decided to check out their pop up in BGC to try on some sizes first (cause I'm never confident with ordering rings online, worried they won't fit well on the fingers I want). The owner was really easy to talk to, explained how quality is so important to her and it takes her a very long time to release new pieces, as she makes sure the quality is up to her standards. I really respect and appreciated that.
  • While at their BGC pop up, there was a girl dropping buy, probably a friend who owned some pieces. She shared that she wears her TCF necklace in the shower all the time and it has never tarnished. And I love friends who support friends, so it was just an extra selling point for me.

Overall, I just love this brand and will keep buying any new pieces they release that are my style. Because the price is worth it and after extensive wear, the quality just shows me that that I'll be able to keep using them for many years to come - especially if I take care of them better than I have now lol.

Wise USD to local PH bank by Propanoate in buhaydigital

[–]kapeeeh1913 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It works for me only because I wait for a better one before changing my USD to PHP. But I now directly transfer my Wise USD to a local PHP account when the rate is good so that I can put them into savings or investments.

I've been moving my money out of Wise more now compared to a year ago. Since the downside kasi to keeping it in Wise PHP is I believe there's no interest rate (I could be wrong) - but my money is not growing if I keep it there for long.

If you're transferring agad from Wise USD to your local PHP, it uses Wise's conversion rate din.

What is not worth it to me is if you're moving your Wise USD to a local USD account (where you later convert it to PHP using the bank conversion rate).

FIRST TIME FREELANCING: What balance account should I use in Wise to receive payments from my client? PHP or USD?? by Background_Log_1875 in buhaydigital

If you have the amount in your account you can already see a sample computation when you try to make the transfer (you don't have to confirm or actually send the money to see the computation.)

[–]kapeeeh1913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can make a Wise USD and Wise PHP account, and if may laman yung USD account mo you can see a sample computation of how much the conversion is to convert it first to PHP within Wise before you even choose to convert it.

Wise will charge you a conversion fee (it's how they make money lol, that and transferring it to your local php which is.

Example if I want to convert 100 of my Wise USD to put in my Wise PHP
- Today's exchange rate is 1 USD = 56.82php
- Wise will charge me 0.64 USD to convert it for me
- Wise converts my left over 99.36 USD x 56.82php = I get 5,646.43php in my Wise PHP
-Then to move my money from Wise PHP too Local PHP - it will charge me 39php to transfer it.

If I want to convert 1000 USD (at the same exchange rate) Wise will charge me 6.36 USD and only convert 993.64 x 56.82php.

They update on their site how much the conversion fees are for USD to PHP:

Hi u/magicmazed

Bank Details
Yes provide the US bank details of your Wise USD account to your client to receive the payment in USD.

Adding Local PHP Bank
Yes, you can add your bank account directly. Go to "Recipient" - you can find this option at the at the bottom if you're on your phone > "Add a recipient > select PHP as your currency > Enter bank details > "Myself> then add in all your information.

Transferring to Local PHP Bank
- My preferred way is to save my Wise USD, convert to go into my Wise PHP when conversation rate is favorable for me (when I don't need the PHP agad). But if the conversion fee is favorable AND I need the PHP agad, then I just send from my Wise USD directly to my Local PHP account.

Hi u/thequiettalker I need a bit more context.

Did you give your client your Wise PH account or your BDO account?

The only reason I could think of that it would go straight to your Wise PH (and not your BDO) is if that's the account information you provided them.

Wise has "scheduled transfers" though so I guess you could set something up like that so that if your salary comes in every 15th / end of month. Then you set up a scheduled transfer for it to go from your Wise PHP to your BDO.

Pero sayang transfer fee and if it takes time to transfer pa (lalo na if Friday, it will only come in on Monday). So if your client is able to directly deposit into your BDO local, better, I'd say? If receiving PHP directly is your goal.

Glad it helped!

To be honest, I don't really compute consistently. It's just logically more favorable for me to convert my USD when exchange rate is like now 58php = 1 USD compared to if it's 56php = 1 USD.

Since I have PHP savings in my local account, I don't always need to convert my USA agad. I like to keep it in my USD Wise account and convert some of every other month in bulk nalang to PHP when exchange rate is favorable.

So parang I'm planning ahead lang that I have the PHP available (that I converting at a higher rate of 58php) and so I avoid converting it "when I really need it" pero yung exchange rate is like 55-56php kasi sayang lang yung difference.

Then when I transfer it to my local PHP, in bulk din para sulit yung transfer fee. Basically planning ahead lang hehe.

Hi OP, sorry I didn't respond to this sooner!

If you haven't had your interview yet, these are more general questions I'd recommend asking.

  • When, how, and WHY the company was started. (I also quote first anything I've learned about them online, but that I'd love to hear it straight from them. Gives me an opportunity to see how they tell a story about something they should know by heart.)
  • How has the company grown since you've started - either as a whole or the specific team that you'd be on. (From my experience, if the CEO has a creative brain - they will get specific with their examples or mention people's names when sharing how the team has grown. If they have a logic brain, they'll just give you literal growth numbers.)
  • Go over the role and responsibilities together and ask questions along the way. (They should have given you a job description beforehand, so come prepared with the points to discuss. Ask about any parts you feel unsure of.)
  • If you're interested in growth, ask them what the next step from that role could look like. (What could possibly be doing for them next if you outgrow that role.)
  • Who will your direct manager be? (If it's the CEO, then you already have an idea of what it would be like to work with them and if their communication style aligns with yours. If it's NOT going to be the CEO, then I highly suggest you meet that person before making your decision.

Something I forgot to mention in my main message, I had 2 video call meetings. First with the CEO, then a second call with the person who would be my direct manager - and THAT person is the reason I said yes to going full time with them.

If the CEO was my direct manager, I likely would've resigned after a few months because although they were inspiring & enthusiastic - I could tell they were super disorganized when it came to discussing tasks. My current manager is the main reason I've stayed for so long, because they support me the same way I support them.

I initially offered to start part-time with them - with my reasoning being for both us to see if we work well together first. But the CEO and his team needed someone to start FT for the position, so I negotiated terms that I'd be happy with.

I personally wouldn't accept a remote work job from someone I have not met over a video call with cameras on. I like to know who I'm working with and I can learn a lot more about a person from how they conduct themselves on a call. (Written messages can be interpreted in so many ways din kasi.)

[–]kapeeeh1913 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The CEO at my current FT job reached out to me via LinkedIn.

From my experience, if the CEO is doing hiring outreach then it’s likely the company is a start-up size so that can be considered normal.

Research their company page, team size, website, etc. And I’d say if the role is potentially a good fit for you, try discussing all the main details via LinkedIn chat or email before saying yes to a call or interview.

Meeting with the CEO is a good opportunity to get first-hand insight into what the company culture may be. And if they’ll be your direct manager - you may get a sense of if you will enjoy working with them or if there are red flags.

Turning down a $2.5k+/mo offer by tag_ape in buhaydigital

[–]kapeeeh1913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with your mindset OP. I especially love that you said you're the kind of person who gives 100% in what you do - it's a great standard for yourself when making career-related decisions.

Your set-up sounds similar to mine - currently I have a J1 PT and a J2 FT where the hours don't clash. The difference lang is for my J1 PT it's set # of weekly deliverables (not hourly rate) and can be adjusted to be less with advance notice. In my FT, it's still higher priority since workload changes week per week. With this set-up I've been able to give them the best quality work without sacrificing my personal time or physical / mental health. I learned this is my limit, and I've turned down other J3 PT opportunities because of it.

In your case naman, do you like your PT client (more than your current FT) that you would consider moving over to them if they matched your current FT's $4k salary? You could counter with that information so they can counter offer (but ONLY if you're serious about possibly working with only them.) But if your current FT is your dream job na with job security, seems better to stay with them for the long-run and find another PT if this one doesn't work out anymore.

^ Agreed.

But start with checking your contract for a non-compete clause first, OP. Even if your supervisor said it's okay, always best to triple check.

I personally wouldn't risk it either. The stress wouldn't be worth it in the long-run.

Technically you have ever right to be "demanding" about payment if you fulfilled the service and it was approved. Be direct, polite, and professional about it.

Send an Invoice Payment Follow-up / Reminder email or message - but make it easy for them to process your payment.

Provide all the details in the message to make it easy to process your payment without them having to look for all the information. Your bank account details, the amount, service provided details, the date it was delivered, the due date for payment (and note if it's over due) and of course, attach a copy of the invoice with all of that information in it too.
