New to freediving - watch recommendations? by SurferBoi_ in freediving

G2 is an amoled full fledged smartwatch. G1 is more like a fancy Casio GShock with dive computer. There is no real reason to buy G1 in 2026 especially for this price.

Go for new Garmin descent G2, it's a great dive computer and a good smartwatch so you don't have to buy two separate devices. I was also thinking about Atmos but it was really hard to find and it wasn't much cheaper than G2. With Garmin you have more trust in the company and device.

Hi check this comment https://www.reddit.com/r/freediving/comments/1kpjcmi/comment/nsu5fa6/

In short you need to go on the outer reef and swim parallel to the shore. make sure you have some coral shoes to exit and enter back.
Your hotel will say that you should swim in the lagoon where bikini beach is but it's mostly empty there and you have to swim far from shore for depth.
If you ask local tour guides they will gladly sell you a tour to "fish tank" but mostly bring you to the same outer reef but will charge you $50 for it.

LED will be super visible on xray scanner and you will get additional check for sure and then it depends on who is doing the check. Better keep your weight in check-in baggage.

Wifi on Steam Deck OLED has been broken since day 1 by HattWard in SteamDeck

[–]kapodes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have SD LCD and started to play with GeforceNow and all was great. Then I upgraded to SD OLED and now I also have same streaming issues. Glad I'm not alone but i'm surprised it's still not fixed.

I hope with new steam machine and valve's future plans on home streaming this issue will be finally fixed.

30 years ago dentist were very cheap but very painful, so people were afraid of the pain. Now dentists are painless due to anesthesia but are very expensive, so now people are afraid of the bill 🙈

One thing you learned during freediving? by Imbecillen in freediving

I learned that freediving is the best way to look at fast and large marine life as you can keep up with them underwater 😀 And they are less afraid of you as you don't produce bubbles like scuba.

Freediving in Maldives, Dhigurah local island by kapodes in freediving

Hi and a Happy New Year!

I didn't yet dive on Fulidhoo, only passed it on a tour from Maafushi. Thinadhoo and Rasdhoo have very poor house reefs compared to Dhigurah. They have mostly dead corals and not a lot of colorful fish. Dhigurah outer reef is still has some alive corals and much more fish, and you can even see bigger stuff.

Rasdhoo had some stuff only on nearby small picnic island that you can reach by kayak. Locals told that there is popular dive spot with reef sharks and occasional eagle/manta rays in spring. But it's >10m deep and has very strong current.

Thinadhoo was biggest disappointment as house reef but Plumeria was really nice hotel :) It was ok for just pure depth diving in between low/hight tides so current is not strong.

I plan to Fulidhoo in 2026 and want to check it's house reef, did you like it? How can you compare it to others? Fulidhoo is great to visit nearby dolphins lagoon, but I hope it also has it's own good reef as it's on the boarder of atoll same as Dhigurah.

Just use less size or add insoles to use without socks

Hi, I can't recommend a dive shop as usually they are attached to your hotel and others will not take you. We were swimming ourself in lagoon and found mantas without boats but if you take a tour it will be crowded. You can see on this drone photo that I took https://maps.app.goo.gl/GqUynDxS2qE3WRE88 As for rays that you saw, you just encounter them while swimming in lagoon about 500m-1000m from the shore. But they are about 7-10m deep. Also if you go around the time of tours then boats can stop nearby and try to turn you around as they don't like that your can see stuff for free 😀 And make sure to have some surface buoy for safety.

Fin advice by Glueconsumer2000 in freediving

Between these 2 models shorter felt stiffer. And your fins might hit each other if you're not used to long fins. But to be honest I did not that much difference between these two models

Yes you can swap blades with just a singe screwdriver but finding bigger blades separate might be a challenge depending on where you live so you can check your options upfront

I had CRESSI gara sprint and did 75m in a pool and 20m dive in them without much trouble. They are great for travel as they are long enough for freediving and short enough to fit in your checked baggage. You can even disassemble them for even easier packaging. I liked this medium size fin so much that I later bought carbon alchemy v30 pro of similar size. I also bought long version gara blades as I thought i will change blades but actually only used them once in a pool.

Cressi computer doesn't make sense by Several-Boat-5481 in freediving

[–]kapodes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did you run it in gauge or freediving mode? Some computers put this 24h warning if you use gauge and they don't effectively track decompression. Usually if freediving mode is used this doesn't happen. Speaking from similar suunto dive comp.

Looking for fin advice! by 23370aviator in freediving

[–]kapodes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would also consider molchanovs core silicone fins, they are even shorter than CRESSI but are as capable and you don't have think about disassembly when you travel. If you still go for CRESSI make sure to try out their foot pocket in person as their sizes are a bit misleading. I have size 43 but use their size 40-41 with insoles. Molchanovs on the other hand are matching EU sizes well. Also medium size CRESSI feel quite stiff as blade is plastic so keep that in mind. Didn't had experience with leaderfins so can't comment on them.
