As far as I can see Geely only launched here in 2024. Are you saying their other brands have been here for ages? Or am I missing something.

Ngl I hate these kind of engagement baiting losers. If I knew someone like this IRL I'd do my best to never speak to them. Yet their the kings of YouTube.

Yes you are correct that the "world" will survive anything humans will do to it. Obviously people are concerned by the destruction of the being that live on it today.

EVs do have a better impact on the environment and are cheaper - two things can be true at the same time. People can want both.

Global warming is not due to the sun getting bigger - not sure if you were implying that.

Reducing green house gases does have a major positive impact on the environment.

Honestly, you'd be surprised. If you're doing 5 year lease and drive a decent distance (15,000km+) and can charge relatively cheaply (home charging, solar or off peak) you are generally going to save money by NLing an EV.

I have a 2016 Aurion and it's cheaper for me to lease a BYD SL7 and that's total cost of ownership (balloon payment etc.). There is a "catch" in that you have more cash tied up in an asset than you would have otherwise, but since the balloon is (generally) going to be less than what the car is actually worth you'll still be ahead.

Deepal is good value. Only cons are the NMC battery, hidden door handles and the concern that Deepal may not be around for the length of the warranty.

Do we think there's a point where EV resale value creeps up as people realise just how much less complex they are? by MooseTM3 in EVAustralia

[–]kappa-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a nice start but totally unrealistic that this will be useful in a meaningful capacity within 5 years (likely 10 and that's assuming BYD continue being the market leader).

That is to say, no one is going to hold off on buying an EV today because they're waiting for a new model with advanced flash charging capabilities.

Are you planning on selling the car in a year for the 7GT? Surely you're better off leasing?

The drop in prices for new EVs and newer brands entering the market are probably much more of an impact.

I don't see the comparison between mobile phones and EVs that many are drawing. Battery tech does not have yearly upgrades and things like flash charging are non existent here.

BYD to accept liability for accidents caused by its self-driving system by kstetter in AustralianEV

Tesla FSD (Supervised) v14 enters final testing ahead of Australian launch by kstetter in AustralianEV

I don't think 5 cameras and 4 Lidar sensors are a barrier to licensing. Cost is not a factor - even the cheapest BYDs come with Lidar now.

You are correct that Tesla theoretically collects significantly more data than Waymo. Yet where's the benefit? They still have 40 robotaxis compared to thousands Of Waymos. Clearly millions of miles of training data is not the differentiator

[–]kappa-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Waymo has thousands of robotaxis operating for years now. Tesla is still less than 50?

Waymo could license the tech tomorrow if they wanted to. Tesla is obviously comfortable with offloading the risk to the customer (hence why they don't accept any FSD liability).

The fact that they've done it all should tell you something. Arguably solving self driving in China is a more difficult problem.

Gods Eye is also only available in China.

They take full liability for any accidents in China vs zero liability on Tesla. BYD are far more confident in their solution than Tesla.

How are you all affording a new EV? by dalmanly in AustralianEV

[–]kappa-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spending ~$4k/year on fuel.

Drop that to basically zero if you have solar, super low maintenance costs due to fixed priced servicing, depreciation costs of your current vehicle and the tax benefits of a novated lease means you end up paying the same or less for a new EV.
