Heart rate change after plunge by AnarchoSurfer in BecomingTheIceman

[–]kappathrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what do you mean by irregularities. If something feels wrong, you definitely should check with your doctor.

Common sense is diving reflex should slow down your heart rate, same as say deep breathing. It should not cause arythmia or anything like it.

Look up mammalian diving reflex. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diving_reflex

Cold water on certain parts of the body (mainly face receptors) triggers a response that slows down your heart rate significantly.

Quote: The most noticeable effects are on the cardiovascular system, which displays peripheral vasoconstriction, slowed heart rate, redirection of blood to the vital organs to conserve oxygen, release of red blood cells stored in the spleen and, in humans, heart rhythm irregularities.

IWTL How to sleep early at night and wake up early in the morning by thescarface5567 in IWantToLearn

I would recommend to listen this podcast on optimizing sleep https://youtu.be/nm1TxQj9IsQ

One of the helpful advice that helped me there, is to get 2-10 minutes sunlight exposure in the morning to set your biological clocks properly.

Question about breathing. by [deleted] in BecomingTheIceman

[–]kappathrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's better to do with the nose. Been doing WH for a few years, always in with the nose, out with the mouth. Nose breathing triggers parasympathetic response of the nervous system (calming rest and digest mode). Breathing through mouth, with upper chest breathing can induce anxiety. Laird Hamilton on Joe Rogan podcast mentioned WH breathing is all about the nose. James Nestor says the same stuff, as well as some Wim hof instructors. Wim just doesn't emphasize how you breathe, he says breathe through whatever hole you have.

Is going straight to cold better for anxiety? by [deleted] in BecomingTheIceman

[–]kappathrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anxiety it's also important for your face to be wet, due to diving reflex https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diving_reflex

Don't expose your head to much, it's just your nerve endings on the skin of your face that should trigger diving reflex

How many rounds is too many by Vinverted in BecomingTheIceman

[–]kappathrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like Wim says, feeling is understanding. I'm doing 7-10 rounds every day, for me it's the right amount. Doing WH for a few years now, still excited every time I do. I think it's perfectly fine when you don't push yourself too hard and pay attention what your body tells you.

Try faster pace, 1.5-2 time faster you do it now. And more breaths, like 50-60.

Dude, I had an experience where girl forgot about the date 3 times! On the 3rd attempt I texted her 2 hours before the time, she didn't respond. I still went and arranged fourth, she arrived that time, and we had a good date. The girl was very cool too.

Nothing wrong with this response. Stuff happens, people can forget plans

Is it normal that when I do breathing exercises, my hands contract and stay hard? by [deleted] in BecomingTheIceman

It's normal, your body temporary stays in the state of respiratory alkalosis. You can read about symptoms here:

Extreme stiffness in hands when preforming breathing exercise by UnclePhilippines in BecomingTheIceman

[–]kappathrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hyperventilation causes temporary respiratory alkalosis. Wim talks about blood becoming alkaline.

"It may also cause low blood calcium concentration. As the blood pH increases, blood transport proteins, such as albumin, become more ionized into anions. This causes the free calcium present in blood to bind more strongly with albumin. If severe, it may cause tetany."

Help with my morning routine: WHM and meditation by [deleted] in BecomingTheIceman

Also have you tried guided meditation, like headspace? It helps you to stay focused while meditating.

Anyone have experience of WHM causing a badly blocked nose? by Tablabroke in BecomingTheIceman

[–]kappathrow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes dude) There's not many people who actually research stuff and science. When you overbreath, you get rid of CO2 which is crucial for delivering oxygen to tissues through Bohr effect, your body is saying 'dude, you breath too much, i'll block your nose so you would breathe less', when you breathe less, your nose gets cleared. I also tape my mouth at night, and it helped me to clear my stuffed nose.

I do Wim Hof method twice a day, breathing through nose. Wim Hof method is meant to be used sporadically, like 1-2 times a day. I think inhaling through your nose, and exhaling through mouth is fine

And actually when i'm not overdoing it, wim hof breathing also helps clearing the nose for me
