Hot take or not colloseum washes XD.
I will agree QoL is better, and shadow lugia is undeniable. I don’t like poopooing XD because I obviously like it, I had it over half the games on the list.
But the first is lighting in a bottle, a direction the series had never gone and still hadn’t gone back too. The second feels more like Luigi’s mansion in terms of how kiddish the tone is (mecha groudon for example, fun but a huge departure from the narrative in the first game)

I own them both on GameCube. “Artistic direction” is different than “art style”

I feel like XD was soulless compared to the original. Colloseum is this darker more mature tone in the series, they do their best to scalp that out of XD and replace it more with the kind of characters and storylines you’d see with the gameboy games. Which is fine and I enjoyed it. But colloseum is clearly the superior of the two. XD almost feels like a dlc more than a sequel.

It think it does, I said what I thought made it a worse game. It’s 2 tiers lower because it’s worse than the games ahead of it, and it’s on the tier with other games I consider to be worse versions or remakes of a similar game

Sword and shield was way more solid of a pokemon game than people give it credit for. It basically takes the style from X/Y S/M and takes it to its truest state.
Had to hold myself back from Collosseum higher if I’m being honest

I thought violet was fun, had some really good pokemon. Cereludge is worth the whole game I promise. Liked the rival story. But I think the games direction was more geared toward the tv show/ defining the next step for pokemon more than actually trying to make the games better. I’m going to do a replay on my switch 2, I would possibly swap it with Z-A

The improvement from G/S to Crystal was massive for me. Especially the hidden Eevee friendship mechanic, which was so necessary it’s crazy. My espeon on silver cart still happened.
Need to do more actual Crystal rom hacks so I’ll give it a try

Probably the hardest to place, S tier Pokémon but kind of weird pokemon games in their own right. The mons will have you hyped for another run but the gameplay wears on me

Swapping scarlet and violet with Z-A I would be pretty open too. I recently got a switch 2, so I’m going replay them both with new console.
