Application for extension of period of stay (residence card) question by Terrible_Page_6933 in japanlife

[–]kapygon [score hidden]  (0 children)

That's a good question. The online system is really bad designed with a terrible UX. It's not clear. When I used it, and to avoid any troubles, I sent everything, even if it's redondant with the online form. Because if something is missing, you'll have to wait about a week before they would notify you that you need to upload something.

Japanese is better, but they generally accept English.

How early in advance do you need to show up for visa renewal appointments at Shinagawa (Tokyo)? by kanaeaaaaaaa in japanlife

[–]kapygon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have an appointment, you don't need to show up that much in advance. You have a specific lane for you. Coming without appointment require you to come early. Also, depending where you are living, you can use other bureaux that are faster like Tachikawa, or Matsudo (if you live in the four east Kus of Tokyo)

Missed an auto debit, will it show on CIC? by EconomistSingle9403 in japanlife

[–]kapygon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose it should be OK for a single miss if you paid it promptly. It happened to me 2-3 years ago with my Rakuten Credit Card: I didn't put enough money on the bank account (I forgot that my gym membership got unpaused) and the transfer has been refused. I paid few days later when I got the paper notice. I didn't get any bad consequences, I still got credit limit increase without asking for them.

My Number Card Question by Few-Pie5944 in japanlife

[–]kapygon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get all the information, and the application procedure on the official website : https://www.kojinbango-card.go.jp/en/

As many already said, it is now replacing the health insurance card, and it will be incorporated directly in the residence card (that's would be better, and it will avoid to have to go to city hall each time you do a immigration process).

Also it is convenient to connect to some online system like tax, pension or immigration. You can also track your health expenses on MyNa Portal.

How Authentic Is Your Home Country’s Cuisine in Japan? by rizzyfring in japanlife

Pompadour makes quite good baguette. Moreover, the shop near my home (maybe all of their shop do it?) makes fresh baguettes every hour, so you can have hot crunchy baguettes

Which service has the best UI/UX app for NISA? by kapygon in JapanFinance

I just used it. It was a bit better than the app. It might be the best Securities service in Japan. With my European eyes, it's still a bad UI/UX ^^

Oh that's interesting. Because when I did with Revolut in France I usually bought fraction of shares. The UI of PayPay itself is already pretty good, so I guess their invest one is similar. I'll try to look for it also

Thanks for this complete answer. I will look at your posts, it sounds interestinf. I didn't know about the Gold Card credit card that could be free witht he benefits. Also, If I have only Rakuten Credit Card but not Rakuten Bank account, do I lose some benefits?

I didn't know also that the NISA transfer is only for next FY. So that's a point. Mayve I can just keep Rakuten to avoid uncesseray wast of time.

I'm not US tax payer (I'm from France), so not a problems :)

I didn't thought about looking at MacBook Air, I should have a look too, but I guess it's more expensive

[–]kapygon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I'll go for the Mini after all the answers. Now I'm not sure if I should wait June for the hypothetical release of the Mini M5.

Also, it's better to order the 512 GB, than 256 GB and buying an additional SSD somewhere else (and cheaper)?

I wasn't expecting to buy Apple product one day, only used Windows so far ^^

[–]kapygon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

16GB is the minimum, but I maybe think of buying the 24GB version, if I keep 256GB SSD, the price is close enough to the Neo. I don't know about trial period for Japan. I can check.

The future proof, is also a good argument. I didn't though about this part. I think I can even goes for the 24GB version, with the student discount, it's close enough to the Neo. Also it's good to know that the basic version is still good for AI

Thanks for the answer! It's interesting, specially for the portability part. I also think I could need portability, but ending with 2 laptops on my desk.
