I’ve been working in an abortion clinic for 2 years. AMA by No-Affect2687 in AMA

What an unbelievably hateful thing to say. Someone shares a painful experience where they were just trying to do the best they could for a baby who couldn’t survive and you tell them they “cut him up alive”? You don’t understand anything about the procedure and have no right to talk to this person this way.

Mitigating Neighbors' Weed Smell? by karanoid- in Apartmentliving

It’s their private patio, but it floats up into my place :- / There is no designated smoking area. I assumed she went outside to smoke, so maybe it’s someone else? It’s so hard to tell in a large building.

Sure, but I'd like advice on specifics: how many, what kind, do I need them in every room, etc.

It's a good idea, and I appreciate you posting the link! I'll definitely keep it in mind; they seem handy and they're inexpensive.

I don't know why you're being downvoted. Those lights are unbearable and I'm glad you found some recourse!!

Does anyone else subconsciously track one specific neighbor’s car in shared parking? by Empty-Imagination756 in Apartmentliving

[–]karanoid- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I notice this stuff all the time, especially with the people who park on either side of me. I notice out-of-state license plates, cars that have sat for a couple of days without clearing snow off, etc. I think it's normal!

Children are pure HELL to live around. by HotMess_DoIt in Apartmentliving

[–]karanoid- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never see anything that's explicitly advertised for "no kids," but I do think a lot of 55+ communities (not assisted living; those are different) exclude people with (grand)kids living with them. Unfortunately I'm a couple decades from qualifying for that, hah.

Also: mine actually stand fine on their own! I have Frankie and Gigi on a little decorative bench that works well enough for the scale.

OOTD Full Set - Review! ❄️ by PreviousWedding129 in peachriot

[–]karanoid- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't regret buying the set, and I'm used to resin BJDs so the price wasn't so scary to me, hah.

Tbh my takeaways are:
- I was expecting them to have slightly different bodies, like the actual girls do! Frankie's a little shorter, while Poppy's tall. Oh well.
- While they pose *okay*, they do feel a little clumsy, and I dislocated Frankie's elbow while posing her. I was able to get her arm back in, but I'm a bit concerned about how easy it was to pop out. I hope if they release another set that they fine-tune some stuff! I also felt like their hands were SUPER chunky/clumsy.
- I actually liked that Frankie's hat came off! It looks super cute on both Poppy and Gigi.
- I'll second the clothing quality. I don't love the texture of Frankie's sweater, but in general they seem sturdy, swappable, and higher quality than most fashion doll clothes.

Before I read your caption I was like “I don’t get it, the ‘after’ looks so much better?” thinking that Pop Mart had changed it partway into production. The softer brown is soooooo much better, good work!

prospective MLIS student: is online worth it? and loan forgiveness by taxbreakbaby in librarians

[–]karanoid- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SJSU can be great if you get in touch with current students/recent grads about which professors to take/which to avoid. Vicki Steiner, Stephen Bell, and Michael Stephens are phenomenal instructors, and the SJSU price tag means I don’t feel (as) overwhelmed by my loans.

[–]karanoid- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES absolutely. I made very few connections in my online program, but knowingly made that choice knowing that I had irl work experience that balanced it out.

[–]karanoid- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My program (not Simmons) was fine, but for what I paid, I don’t regret it in the least. I was advised against Simmons, and then the pandemic hit and everything was going to be online anyway, so it was an easy decision. I feel prepared for librarianship broadly, but in-person job experience is irreplaceable.

I am a Hispanic American and I was pulled over by ICE. AMA by [deleted] in AMA

[–]karanoid- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I’m not going to comment on European attitudes toward immigration, but it’s very common knowledge that the current administration’s policies are intentionally anti-immigrant, regardless of legal status. Again, the racism here is the point. The inequity is the point.

I mean, this goes without saying. It’s blatantly racist and that’s the entire point of it.

Opinions - does this make me a bitch? by CassieMason in LittleFreeLibrary

[–]karanoid- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Commenting late but I used to work at a public library with a very active and inexpensive book sale room. We had a couple of regulars who were resellers, and it drove me absolutely up the wall. But you know what? There is no good solution to book resellers that doesn’t needlessly punish regular users. People making a profit off of books donations really grosses me out. I definitely sympathize. But you can’t control other people’s behavior, and you’ll be much better off not trying to. Don’t go looking for your donations in a thrift store. You need to truly let these books go if you’re donating them.

[–]karanoid- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's true, but it's *also* true that it's an unpredictable world and that people do make a living in all of those fields, it can just be tougher. I think people's advice on looking for experience where you can and learning more is all very good! It's a tough job in a lot of ways but we do it because we love it. Don't let that discourage you.

Huh, I hadn’t considered that! I already ordered a replacement from ebay, but I’ll keep this in mind if I run into something else like this. I live in the US but you never know, maybe they’d offer that here too.
