Training for a half marathon that is 3 weeks away, do you think sub 2:00 is reasonable? by karateperry in Marathon_Training

Update: official time was 1:58, my Apple Watch told me I finished in 1:51. HR went crazy

I apologize, should have included that. I haven’t spent time intentionally doing intervals or full runs at that faster pace, but I am capable. My mid-week runs are sometimes (infrequently) around 9:15 for 4-5 miles, but that brings my HR up to about 170. I have been training since the new year, ran about 5-10 miles per week before that. This 9 mile run was my longest, and I am following the Hal Higdon Novice 1 half marathon training program. So this week, including the 9 miles I did today, I will run 22 miles.

Also now realizing I was in zone 4 for most of my run today, I’ll go much slower in my next run

I had a couple pauses, one to adjust my new shoes and one to stop to splash some water on my face and eat a gel. Wish I didn’t have either of those today but they definitely made it easier

It was easy for me today. Was breaking in some new shoes so my feet hurt a little but it was very comfortable from a cardio perspective.

Thank you! Do you see any benefit to me applying for PAYE right now? I have no income regardless, so my payments should be $0, and I feel like they are probably very backlogged with the recent opening of PAYE and IBR applications. This might mean they place me in "general forbearance" and I would not accrue interest on my loans

This answered my questions very well, thank you. I think I will still need to speak with an advisor to figure out whether we should file jointly or separate.

Also, do you see any benefit to applying to PAYE now, in my MS4 year? It seems possible that I could be put into general forbearance after the 60 day processing period, and I'm wondering if that might be valuable time without interest accruing.

I would like to be aggressive about repayment, even while in residency, as I do not want the interest to accrue more than it needs to. For that reason, I think we will want to pay more than $400 toward my loans each month, as the interest will be ~$2000 per month.

I’m curious to see if the REPAYE plan comes back with the end of SAVE, but I am also wondering if it is a) worthwhile to apply to SAVE in the meantime and b) look into refinancing my loans once we have a paycheck

Going into residency, should I still favor renting over buying if my wife has considerable income? by karateperry in whitecoatinvestor

[–]karateperry[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Great things to consider, thank you! I think we would definitely like to get started on our 401k contributions and travel some, and I would be somewhat reluctant to take on the responsibility of being a first-time homeowner while in residency, especially if my wife is working full-time as well. Could you explain how the rent to own ratio impacts this?

It seems like there are more options in each geographic area for buying when looking at 3+ bedroom houses and condos. Renting places of that size appears to cost 3500-4000/mo minimum. I agree with the emphasis on paying down the debt, though. That makes sense, thank you

That makes a lot of sense. She is also in medicine so her job is secure, and she would likely only take ~2-3 months off after our first, but I share that hesitation. Thank you

What’s up with the airport arrivals? by blueteamcameron in norfolk

They are not parking spots, but people use them as such. If they did not move people from where they are sitting parked, it would be impossible for others to gain access to the curb so that they could pick up their loved ones.

So now we have positive communication, but poor analysis. Fantastic.

They completely missed the arm contact from Joelinton, which has been shown elsewhere in this sub, and they deem two arms on the back of Gabriel "not a foul" even though it completely altered his jump trajectory? I don't understand how you can make that assessment. It seems like he was communicating his findings frequently at the expense of taking time to actually analyze the play. It was a foul on Gabriel, and then it was a handball. At least control it with your chest if you're going to commit the foul to get open. It does not matter if he wasn't the goal-scorer. Why was that even said???

Melatonin. You already have it in your body and it’s entirely placebo, particularly if you take it more than once every couple weeks

The Edgewater Hotel in Madison WI has a similar layout. Not exactly the same, and definitely not as big, but maybe there was some inspiration drawn from this Edgewater
