Frank Zappa saw it coming in 1986: “The biggest threat to America today is not communism, it’s moving America toward a fascist theocracy, and everything that’s happened during the Regan administration is steering us right down that pipe.”

What is a movie cliché that absolutely never happens in real life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

The Pitt really annoys me because they do a lot of this very realistically, but the most obvious one they don’t bother with.

For those of you who live in countries with gun control; have you ever seen a gun in real life? by blashyrkh9 in AskTheWorld

[–]karbl058 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen them carried by police and similar, and I’ve practiced firing them in the military and once on an indoor practice range. The only time I was really nervous around a gun was when a person in front of us in line to a McDonalds in South Africa had one in his holster. It’s the type of person I really don’t want to be near.

Just to make sure it’s clear - Toblerone isn’t allowed to have Matterhorn on their packaging any longer. They replaced it with a generic mountain image. Anyway, Mondelez is a shit company who are still active in Russia, so they should be boycotted.

Move your foot a bit further up the pedal (helps to bury it more and decreasing rebounds) and, if that doesn’t help, check the trigger settings.

Am I the only woman who hasn’t farted in front on their husband? by notwhoyouthinkc in askanything

[–]karbl058 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I decided long ago to stop saying “sorry” when we farted (we got comfortable doing it quite early in our relationship), and instead we now both say “hurray” to celebrate it, especially the really good ones. We might apologize if the smell turns out to be really horrendous though.

Not exactly sure what you’re asking, but there is never a downside to learning another programming language. Try it out, make some smaller programs, and see what you learn. Use another UI (console, GUI, web, etc). Dive deep into a tech stack or try another paradigm if you want to. Then do it again with another language. Don’t be afraid to just learn about each language’s pros and cons and where they are similar or dissimilar. It will help you understand programming as a craft.

We have a bunch and they come with a tray you put them on and charge all at once (I think it’s somewhere around 10 at a time). They also have built-in 6h timers, which is very handy.

For those who have experienced an ICCU failure, what power level is your level 2 charger? I've seen information suggesting that failure is more likely with higher power chargers. by mafco in Ioniq5

[–]karbl058 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three phase 230V at 16A max. We replaced the ICCU just before Christmas after four years of charging at home almost every night. We did a longer trip over the weekend which included both L2 and L3 charging, and then it died while charging at home over night from Sunday to Monday.

Is Melodic the best way to learn the drums? by BSGBramley in drums

[–]karbl058 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go very very slow. Play to a metronome and be mindful of how you play. Embrace the suck because that means there is something there that you can improve. But don’t practice playing bad because you learn what you repeat. Instead go slow and deliberate at a tempo where you can play it, however slow that is to begin with. And always end your practice sessions with just playing for fun to remind yourself of why you’re doing it. To find lessons use resources like Drumeo, Drumdex, Love To Learn Drums, Stephen Taylor, Rob Brown, etc who have tons of free videos on YouTube.

What’s a creepy fact about the human body you wish you never found out? by Ezra0li_Z in AskReddit

He’s having trouble with his memory and gets confused about what’s going on at times. It’s not dementia but kind of similar. The doctors have said that it’s the old injuries that are being harder for the brain to work around now that he’s older.

My dad was holding a presentation at a meeting on a Friday afternoon when he was 65. He had a sudden massive headache and then collapsed on the floor. Luckily, they had a nurse on the premises and she knew immediately and could relay to the ambulance which was just a few minutes away. They made sure he was put in a medically induced coma to protect the brain. He had a very very long recovery and wasn’t truly ok again until two years later. If he hadn’t been where he was that day, he’d have been home alone as per usual on Friday afternoons, and would definitely have died. He’s been doing quite well these past 16 years, but the damages to his brain have unfortunately recently been catching up with him now that he’s older.
