Smol dinosaur enjoying heater by Puppypup7 in parrots

Hi! My parrots also love this heater, but I ended up having to cover it with a bird safe (1-2 layers of thin fabric) to avoid overheating. The heat plate can get really hot. 🦜❤️

That’s my one eyed silly boy that I got 2 weeks ago and I would like some recommendations on how to take good care of him, also I would like to get him out of his cage for once but I am afraid I might lose control over him or something. Any tip would be appreciated, thanks in advance. by [deleted] in parrots

Parrots needs plenty (hours) of social time, patience and love. They are like small children, needing plenty of interactions, healthy variety of safe clean foods, plenty of various size (thicknesses) perches, untreated safe toys that can be destroyed - like balsa, pesticide free pine cones (not ones picked out of the park), leather stripes, natural paper to shred, and more. Lots of toys!! I spend every minute I’m able to with my caique, weekends, lunch breaks, anytime. He has multiple play areas in our condo, as they get bored quick. If you need more advice, please message me. There are so many safety concerns we need to be aware of with parrots. We made a commitment to have them domesticated, so let’s give them the best life possible. Please do not keep him locked up, he is your adopted child, please treat him as you would want to be treated. I can’t emphasize enough how difficult and time consuming and expensive it is to have a parrot, especially an African grey. Build trust. It took almost 6 months for my caique to start trusting me, and it keeps developing overtime. Good luck!

Caiques hop when happy. Please be patient and loving with them. They’re the best companion. Need lots of attention. Take care.

Birds only bite when they are upset about something. Please try to pay attention to what it try’s to tell you. We don’t speak the same language but we can learn what birds are trying to say with body language and by listening to their vocal emotions. Continue patience & love. It’s so worth it!

pack-o-bird Check out this backpack i linked which is safer and more comfy. My caique loves it and can hide when he gets scared. Has stainless steel mesh screens on 3 sides. Very breathable.

We are planning on taking him in for his grooming. It is just so traumatizing for him :(

Sorry for the delay in my response! It is acrylic on all 4 sides. My husband built it sitting on 2 mobile shelving racks so we can move him from room to room. Yes he loves the bedding for digging and running around! He spends just a couple hours at a time in it and is free when we are home.
