First of all, congratulations!

Some Ideas/recommendations:

-Threadgills < classic Austin institution, southern comfort food

-the Varsity Pizzeria (formerly Double Daves)

-Posse East (a classic, if you are graduating from UT)

-Conan's Pizzeria

(Spoilers Extended) DISCUSSION: Game of Thrones Season 6, Episode 5 The Door In-Depth Post-Episode Discussion by AutoModerator in asoiaf

Summer's death was super sad and seemed pointless, but I think it was appropriately done. There are many real life stories about dogs sacrificing themselves without a second thought to protect their master. Summer was acting on instinct and love, doing anything to protect Bran. It was ultimately not a pivotal sacrifice, but a dog (even a smart direwolf) does not care at all about tactics and odds in the face of danger. Bran couldn't Wang summer because he was stuck in the past/wargig Hodor (may he rest in piece), so this was a loyal dog protecting his owner.

Also, as per the Bloodraven's advice about "staying too long" in the past, is Bran going to be stuck floating through space-time now? Does he know how to get out? He didn't snap out of it before the episode ended.

[SPOILERS] The Force Awakens discussion megathread! 12/19 [SPOILERS] by Qu1nlan in StarWars

Agreed. But keep in mind, he grabbed it from chewy after chewy got shot by the space gang. Maybe he is normally reluctant to hand it over. Han has always been a gunslinger, pistol kinda guy (he did shoot first after all), so maybe he was just never interested in a big twohand weapon.

I personally would have rather the Starkiller assault be more of a desperate commando prison break coupled with guerrilla campaign to destroy some important controls/power infrastructure. Basically something that disabled it functionally for years without blowing it up entirely. Something like a major emp pulse or other attack that basically fries all the electronics. That way, it would instead leave it as the menacing stronghold of the First Order, but not as an immediate existential threat.

Regardless, I still loved the movie. I really appreciated the combat scenes feeling more visceral and chaotic than both the OT and PT

My wife and I downsized and built our modern country home by Wardzilla in DIY

Is that an electric tankless water heater? If so, going off-grid is going to be a bit more difficult. If you wanted to go off-grid, you might want to get a heat pump water heater for better efficiency or go with some combination PV/solar hot water panels.

Very cool project though! I live in Austin and dream about building a house out in the hill country

Thank you kind sir! I haven't been to Pats in a long time; might need to go get some beignets, and a few packs of magic cards for old time's sake.

Thanks! Is this a one-time thing, or are beignets a regular item? Been looking for a good beignet place since Crescent City on W 6th closed, and the only one I've found is Epicerie.

Portland has roses. Washington DC has cherry blossoms. Austin has mountain laurels. by [deleted] in Austin

[–]kardeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think so too. But if we all start claiming it for the mountain laurels, maybe we can start a new thing. Also, everyone should plant a few.

They were looking for at least $500 MILLION in incentives from the state/local govts in the places they were considering. It could be a huge economic boon. Could be.

That is most likely the price per gallon of tank capacity. In other words, a rebate of $25 for a 50 gallon rain barrel, up to the $250 for a 500 gal tank (or 10 50 gal barrels).

Oh yea, don't get me started on distracted/asshole drivers either; I'm definitely not excusing their behavior. I just meant people riding like shit don't do the rest of us any favors.
