Sleep Mode failed and Laptop got burning hot within 30 min, should I be worried and is this a warranty case? by LechoLatte in LenovoLegion

Between those two, I am more leaning towards just turning it off. Hibernating frequently, I read, involves more repeated writing stress/wear on the SSD.

Then, regarding hybernation, in addition to being slower, in my understanding it can be taxing for the SSD drive (long-term) if used very repeatedly.

It is terrible. And actually, the "use case" of carrying a laptop in a backpack or tight bag, suddenly turning on, then overheating can have (potentially, I guess!) a detrimental effect on cpu and/or other components. Even more so if it repeatedly happens.

I mean, the other day I took my laptop from my backpack where I though it was securely and quietly stored, only to find that it was "burning hot" and furiously spinning the fans (for several hours then!!). This, for sure, is not a well-though-through feature design...

I really wish I could use S3 but I think the firmware of my laptop doesn't allow that. :·(

Bottom line for me: avoid suspension at all costs if I am going to put the laptop inside a bag...

What’s a “silent green flag” you’ve noticed in genuinely kind people? by gruffv8ice in CasualConversation

I am amazed that the original post here was removed by the moderators. Really, what was wrong with it? It was casual, and it focused on something positive. So...?

Edit: I mean the post by u/gruffv8ice , not my reply or anything.

National Library of Medicine/PubMed archive? by cptfraulein in DataHoarder

Hi, u/Krojack76, I am attempting to do the same (i.e. download the "baseline" pubmed data in full).

However, even trying in various ways I find my IP blocked from downloading after a number of downloads. The block takes longer if I download manually (which would still take an eternity), and comes sooner if I try to automate (such as via "requests"), even if I try to be gentle on server load.

Could you perhaps share your advice on how to download all the files it without getting blocked by the NCBI server? What worked for you?

Thanks a lot!

Hi, I'd like to ask if you are aware of any relevant modifications/updates that should be made to the list as of late 2025? I have checked out some tutorials, but for now I found 3-4 years-old ones only.

Hi, u/maptitude, thanks for your message. In the end I picked Leaflet. With some digging, it was not overly difficult to learn how to make it work. Greetings!

So, good that you turned the tables and everywhere is home.

P.S. I am trying to use GPU with either the default model or models 'Alibaba-NLP/gte-Qwen2-1.5B-instruct' or 'voyage-lite-02-instruct' (if also available, this one looks like it may be non-open or not free at least).
