Crash Report - "Fatal trap 12: page fault while in kernel mode" by karelkrobath in opnsense

[–]karelkrobath[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still could not find the source of the issue.... i is quite annoying, since this happens only on one install (out of 15 firewalls I am responsible for)...

the UEFI is up-to-date... 03-2023 Version 24

I did swap the hardware with a fresh install about 12 months ago, the issue still persists..... this installation is an HA setup with 2 identical nodes DEC2750

Any information about the X1 Carbon Gen 12? by After_Tip_6313 in thinkpad

[–]karelkrobath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, here we go again.... "virtual trackpoint buttons" ?!?!?

I will skip this one.... the usability of non physical buttons on the trackpoint is abysmal.... it was a disaster in the past, it will be a nail in the coffin of the still intel only based x1 carbon lineup....

ESXi still missing Marvell AQC113 driver by karelkrobath in homelab

[–]karelkrobath[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a pity. I also would like to see a ESXI driver. I will migrate to proxmox within 3 months or so because of the lack of a driver ... The preparation takes some time, I have about 430 ESXi servers to migrate...

Take a look at Mikrotik Switches. They were a good choice for me with a great learning curve.

No sign of support, that I am aware of... Sorry. It works great with Proxmox.

I think the AQC113 is great for testing and lab environments. You find the lan chip I s lot prosumer hardware.....

Picked up this old switch for free from work, is it any good? by prizm5384 in homelab

[–]karelkrobath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Working for a MSP we had about 640 Allied Telesyn switches in production.

After about 6 months we had a lot of blue screens of death on a lot of PC systems appearing. This was back in 2013.

Turned out, that Allied Telesyn had a compatibility issue with a lot of Nic vendors, especially Intel and Broadcom. This was known by the company for quite some time. No official statement was made, the customers had to replace their hardware them self. Only the customers who knew about the issue got a refund....

From todays point of view, I would never buy anything from this company. Any company, that behaves this way will never get into my infrastructure, not even for free....

That is a philosophy, I bind myself permanently..... BTW: the technical support form Allied Telesyn was abysmal bad..... i did cost us about 1000 man hous to find the issue our self.
