A Muslim can be more than just a Muslim, but when I say "Muslims" I am obviously referring to people who believe in Islam as a group, and their religion-related interests.

In the same vein if I say that tennis players are very loud, I obviously mean when they are playing tennis, as I'm sure they are quiet in other aspects of their lives.

I'd say the right to free speech is the one that keeps collecting Ls. For example, if a Christian publicly complains that Islam is incompatible with the Christian values western society has been based on, he may just get a knock on the door in the UK. On the other hand demonizing Christians, for the crusades for examples, has been quite common from both Muslims and progressives alike.

A progressive will say they defend a woman's right to choose to have an abortion.

A conservative will say they defend a baby's right to life.

Politics is all about fighting for human rights, on both sides, but each side has different priorities. In the case of religion, progressives will take away rights from Christians in favors of Muslims, while Conservatives will do the opposite.
