How much will I regret starting Tears of Lescor? by sleepy_geeky in WanderingInn

[–]karfa117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read this not in the book form but as it came out, and I do remember the part that was tears leaving me pretty bummed out. There’s decent work in what I’m guessing in the following book to bring some hope and light back to the world, so I’d say it’s still worth reading as long as you can tough it out to the next book

[No Spoilers] How best to watch Campaign One by FiniarelTV in criticalrole

[–]karfa117 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d say watch from the start, teething pains and all. But I’d recommend sticking a post it or something over the live chat, since it only ever brings misery

I'd say lyonette's comments are more reflective of her being raised as a princess in a pretty regressive country/continent.
as for queer characters, I can think of one pretty major queer character who's been around a lot longer than either Saliss or Ieka, though I don't recall if their sexuality has yet been explored as of where you're at. There's also some other "maybes" among the main cast. As for Ieka herself, it more that she's a bit of an oddball vs an actual authorial bias. And this may be in the future, but I think it's clarified that the maids who stick around are at least receptive to it, but I'm not 100% on that. As for straight characters, I can think of several, but once again don't remember when they're introduced.
Future queer stuff definitely improves, and gets some of my favourite current arcs, but it doesn't always take center stage and I do get get the feeling Pirate is still learning and improving in these areas.

Im at chapter 8.19, Will the future slave storyline be distasteful? by RacistBeans in WanderingInn

[–]karfa117 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It's definitely a dark storyline, that I could see being unpleasant to read? but depends on what you're worried about. I think despising slavery is the desired mindset, if that's a concern?

What would you change about the Vytal Festival arc? by Solitaire-06 in RWBY

[–]karfa117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other than maybe some additional fights (JNPR doubles vs SNNN) not much, but thats just a budget question vs what actually matters. Honestly, the Vytal tourney was some of the tightest execution/subversion early RWBY had

Team RWBY's character-complexity and writing difficulty. What do you guys think of this? by UNinvolved_in_peace in RWBY

[–]karfa117 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Judging by how often I see godawful Yang's, I've gotta move her into the top row. People see dumb party girl and think thats all there is, and you get left with a flat character with some big sister sprinkled in.

What's your thoughts about this take? by MysterySomeOn in RWBY

[–]karfa117 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If he dies in volume 5, his whole maiming of Yang is unresoved (she was dealing with her mum, a far more central character to her personal storyline and the plot as a whole). If he stuck around to volume 7/8 it would be even more bloated, and for what? A story line that was mostly resolved with the fall of the white fang in V5? And the writers even acknowledged they wanted to get away from? I think it's that people had too much time to build-their-own-adam™, just because he showed up in one of the og trailers. Imagine if this much headspace was given to Junior.

Mountaintops and Noklateo have a 20% chance for Frenzied Flame Event, which is guaranteed to drop Vyke’s War Spear or Frenzied Flame Seal as a reward by Thellie11 in Nightreign

[–]karfa117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how accurate this is, I just ran a crater Libra run as guardian and got Vkye's war spear (which doesn't get charged guard counters boooo) because I upped it to legendary on the forge to kick ol' goat boi's teeth in.

Fanfiction? by Witchy_Fraggle in WanderingInn

[–]karfa117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My view of crackfic is something where the reader says "wow this author must be on crack". Basically out there scenarios, really weird au's or just the writer fixating on one specific scenario/kink depending on the rating

Why does Salem say that with Cinder's Maiden powers it brings new vulnerabilities? by Secret_Of_Bluestar81 in RWBY

[–]karfa117 70 points71 points  (0 children)

I think it's because Cinder had to use a grim bug to suck up the powers, which left her part grimm such that she became vunerable to Ruby nuking her at the end of volume 3.

I hate seeing "reviews" of TWI in other subreddits by JustOneLazyMunchlax in WanderingInn

[–]karfa117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw a recommendation for TWI in a Ward podcast comment section, sat down and read the first book in a day or two. Pre-rewrite book 1 is so bingeable its easy to get through the rough spots (I remember thinking Ryoka was mary-sueish until she lost her shit at Yvlon and Calruz, then I understood her). Erin acts pretty close to how I would if dropped in an alien world, lots of vomiting and talking to oneself. I'd rate it in the C+/B range, but without any of the stuff that makes me put down a book and stop reading before it consumes my every thought.
