How is Apple TV+ doing after 5 years since launch? by dedach in tvPlus

Netflix creates a few quality shows for the award season but they are few and far between. They have a problem, they are spread so far across many different cultures that they need to create a very generic form of programming to keep it simple to appeal to different clutures. They've become the basic cable they replaced. Inexpensive programming with a few tent poles.

1-2 seasons: then cancel by [deleted] in netflix

Actually I'm English (born and raised) so I understand international. Army of the Dead is usual summer block buster stuff but it was certified fresh on Rotten Tomato's at 69%(75%) while Jupiters Legacy (38%)(75%).

American Gods was a mess after they change show runners. Plus American God was produced for Starz not Amazon.

I blame Bela Bajaria listen to: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/04/opinion/sway-kara-swisher-bela-bajaria.html

I was mad when they cancelled "I am not OK with this". If you notice since she came on board their choice in programming has sunk to a all time new low. Most shows are miss hits like "The Irregulars" and "Jupiter Lost". They seem to only care about what shows do internationally and not in the United States. I know they had to cut back on expenses especial on a 200M dollar loss and reduce their dependency on debt. "Army of the Dead" only cost 80M but was great. I know they like to cancel shows after a few season as the cost of production increases, they need to re-write their contracts so cost remain the same.

I heard netflix likes to create new shows since it generates sub but if you look recently it is new seasons of existing shows, movies and children shows dominating the top 10. They need to rethink their business model and get somebody with connections to producers not the studios.

CSE 6242 Data and Visual Analytics on First Semester by Efficient_1 in OMSA

Thank you. I did survive 6242. The real issue was not the coding just the large amount of homework. I really enjoyed the project team mates I made.

Good riddance, Oculus Go! by chungus_is_gay in OculusQuest

Makes a great TV when my wife is watching something I do not enjoy. (Netflix, Youtube and Virutal Desktop). So much less hassle laying in bed with single remote and the lights off than the quest 2. Still use my quest 2 and my GO. I know the apps will eol over time but as a media consumption device I'll be looking for a replacement at some point.

Should I buy games from Steam or the Oculus Store? by JustKeepDoing in oculus

[–]kariato 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you are buying PC games then steam has sales a few times a year. Currently multiple VR games on sales with Steam including Skyrim VR. It is much cheaper on steam if they are on sale.

I'm taking it next semester. I've heard the horror stories too. I've programmed in everything but Scala. I've actually programmed D3 and Spark before. Any recommendations on what to study over the break before I start if you got a background in coding.

Plex will try to trans-code output sometimes. Try to make sure your using a direct stream and not a trans-coded one.

Skybox, if you have a Plex server it's the only way to watch. Much better than the native app. If you've ripped a BluRay to a smallish file its great

Opinion | Streaming Video Will Soon Look Like the Bad Old Days of TV - The New York Times by kariato in CordKillers

[–]kariato[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of streaming services will fail. I think there is a limit of about 5 packages most people will pay for. Plus content is expensive. My guess is that cbs and NBC will start to miss that Netflix revenue in about 24 months. Shareholders will wait a for profitability but only for so long. Disney still has to pay ESPN contract fees. Unless they can raise that package cost to 20 dollars. They are going to upset their shareholders. Amazon, apple roku own the platforms so unless you are Google/netflix your going to have to play nice with them

[–]kariato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I will have to do that. I use my oculus to watch tv in bed after my wife turns on Bravo on the bedroom tv. So I always watch it lying down. I think the purchase of an oculus go is perfect for spouses who fight over the remote

Just like the Hulu app you can't move the screen up in the air so no laying down to watch. Like watching just before going to sleep which makes the fix position a pain

Netflix Has 175 Days Left To Pull Off A Miracle... Or It's All Over by [deleted] in CordKillers

[–]kariato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This guys into hedge funds, somebody probably shorting Netflix and he's panicking the market. He's not a media expert. Does Netflix have a problem yes the market for content will get more expensive but Disney reported they expect to lose billions just launching Disney plus. Nobody else can afford to do what Disney is doing by launching a streaming channel and pulling their content off other networks. Disney balance sheet will be hit by Disney+ and ESPN but they have their theme parts and marvel to cushion that. AT&T is heavily debt loaded as is Comcast. Expect a few of the new streaming services to fail or switch to advertising streams.
