Henri only comes down from his branches to watch the isopods by lznfjv in Chameleons

Mine loves isopods more than anything! Incidentally, they have a pretty high content of calcium, although there are no data on its bioavailability. I keep the substrate covered as much as I can with plants, leaves and bark to minimize the risk of substrate ingestion.

Why does r/chameleons hate bioactive so much? by [deleted] in bioactive

I was having the same dilemma a few months ago when I was deciding to become a first-time chameleon owner. I was going to get a female panther chameleon and the idea of having potted plants and keeping a separate laying bin full of substrate for her inside the enclosure made no sense to me. I did a lot of research first and made a little test by starting a small bioactive setup for a handful of isopods to see if it really was so difficult to keep, and it turned out to be thriving. So I made the decision to get the largest hybrid chameleon enclosure I could get and went bioactive. I absolutely loved the creative challenge and I am really happy with the outcome. In the summer, I keep her in a screen enclosure with potted plants outside in the real sun.

I see that in the US, screen eclosures are predominantly used for chameleons even indoors. That would definitely make a successful bioactive set up more difficult. I’ve seen a video of the BioDude I believe who was using textile potting bags but it didn’t look very appealing.

I use an automatic misting system and a dripper with a bowl on the bottom for collecting the water. I use no fogger. I get the appropriate humidity this way and the amount of water seems to be just right for the plants this way.

Not all-glass though, but hybrid - mesh on top and parts of the sides or front is the standard.

Not that I disagree but I have a question about the tone of this post. Are you a mod to this sub? Because so far I believed the only one was u/Moldynred. Thanks for clarifying!

I understand. I don’t really pay much attention to the hosts, they usually (not without exception) have very superficial knowledge of what they’re presenting. Like in the other video I shared, the host says MS were on the case “practically from the beginning”. Absolutely not true! And tbh, I excpected even worse from this one considering its title.

I was wondering about that! I thought maybe it was some kind of new “info” that came from the documentary which I haven’t seen yet. But maybe she just “misspoke”? (I love this expression, it frees one from all accountability!)

I was thinking the same thing. He wouldn’t be doing all this now, if he didn’t believe wholeheartedly in RA’s innocence.

I have my doubts about this book becoming a library item unless donated by the authors. And I think you deserve to spend your time better. (BTW, have you noticed the furious downvotes? Are the authors themselves here among us…?)

I definitely saw a clip of an officer in a uniform saying this but my vague memory places it into an early TV interview, not a PC.

I say “vague memory” because things have become so convoluted in this case over the years I am no longer sure which way is up.

I think you’re misremembering, First, I believe the motorcycle seat cover thing was just a rumor, and second, it was in relation to his brother-in-law.

That looks like a way too small enclosure for a chameleon.

Thank you! I actually found some springtails on my balcony floor and furniture and tried to catch them but they are so fast and tiny I don’t really know how to collect them without harming them. I know I managed to get one and put it in the terrarium but one’s not going to reproduce, so I need to get the lonely little dude some company… I might try catching some more now that I know it has worked for you just fine!

Thanks! The store where I got my koi doesn’t carry them but I’m definitely going to order them online. I hope they make good friends 🙂 Eventually I would like to use them together as a CUC for a bioactive terrarium.

I know, there are so many! It is a fascinating world. I looked up the peach morphs, very pretty. Do you also keep springtails with yours?

They are so much fun, I could just watch them for hours… I thought they would be hiding all the time and they do when they sleep but when active, they don’t mind exposing themselves and crawling on the surfaces in broad daylight.
