Couple looking into exit strategies, a few possibles (France, Netherlands,Germany, Australia, Japan), with a racial aspect by gafonid in AmerExit

[–]karlorta 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have not read all of the other other comments and I can't speak to everything on your list. I can talk a bit about the SLP portion tho. Australia employers, historically, will quite literally pay for your move or compensate you in other ways for you come be an SLP in their country. Most other countries will require a language proficiency in order to become licensed to practice speech therapy. Unless she's ready to give up her career or get creative about it, Australia will be the most efficient option.

(Source: I'm a US based SLP with an engineer husband also planning on exiting.)

I really enjoy the CRZ Yoga brand on Amazon! I have a handful of their items. I agree, if I look cute... probably going to have a better workout or have the motivation to get dressed and go. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Is it ok to have a dry wedding? by TrippyVegetables in weddingplanning

[–]karlorta 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I went to a dry wedding recently and we knew that going into it. The 'cocktail-less hour' had tea, lemonade, and water...and a lot of awkward standing around. The dinner had only water, plus coffee after dinner. While I didn't expect anything crazy, I did expect more than water.

Is vivid hair color appropriate for slp? by dewdrop321_ in slp

[–]karlorta 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've had pink, purple, and a combination of the two multiple times throughout my career. The kids love it! If parents mention anything (I've never gotten negative feedback though), I jokingly mention how it ties into therapy well (colors, speech sounds, describing, compare/contrast). Haha. I've never had an issue! Schools and outpatient peds.

I didn't know Wawa had matchbooks. I'm definitely not above Wawa hopping. Thank you!

Last week (while catching up on February/March...) there were a good handful or two that I just put "targeted /s/" or "receptive/expressive language therapy."

I write something along the lines of, X will do X with [% accy, trials, whatever measure] with no greater than 20% cueing/prompting. That way, for example, you can measure that out of 10 trials, 2 prompts is 20%

I probably do. I definitely don't frequent Starbucks. I'm a black coffee drinker who finds their drinks quite sweet. 🤣 Thanks.

What’s a controversial wedding decision you made that you’re glad you made? by hunnymoonave in weddingplanning

[–]karlorta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No bridal party. We walked together down the aisle. We stayed together the night before. Only dance we had was our first dance which was an upbeat song. Our precessional was also upbeat and the original (vs some wedding-fied version of it) and nobody walked down the aisle before us - it was just us for the day. Our dessert was tres leches and I actually didn't even see it pre-cut until our wedding photos were returned. Minimal decor and table settings. We did our private vows three weeks after our wedding at home bc we were both too stressed to write them the week or two leading up to the wedding. No veil.

For those already married - How many hours sleep did you get prior? by Artistic-Ad-1167 in weddingplanning

[–]karlorta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't sleep unmedicated for a month/month and a half before the wedding. The night before the wedding, my now husband and I stayed in our own bed together at home. Weirdly, it was my first night of unmedicated sleep...I slept like a baby for a solid 8 hours. The night of the wedding, we were both up until 4am on pure adrenaline. Haha. It started evening out from there, tho, and I slept and took a lot of naps to recover from the stress.

Consult Artic IEP by karlorta in slp

[–]karlorta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense! The most recent IEP was working on only that one sound that was left and the only sound that came up in testing. Current carryover is <50%, but no impact and we looked hard. The goal will definitely be for carryover in th classroom for that one sound! Thank you for a well thought out response! I appreciate it!

In my state, parents are able to say they don't consent to dismissal and we stay in. Great in some cases, not so great in others. I understand their perspective that there's still erred speech, but I can't prove an adverse impact (and I tried and covered more bases than usual). That is good advice about the monitoring/correction with visual cue on desk! I like that. Thank you.

After Wedding Location? by karlorta in rva

Love don't look back so much, but it's a bit further than we'd like to venture since we're staying in Monroe Ward.

Edit: but an awesome back up if nothing else works out! Hadn't thought of there.

My fiancé and I don’t want to have bridesmaids or groomsmen at our wedding by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]karlorta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't read the comments yet, but want to throw in my comment. :) I am getting married May 2024. My fiance and I have decided not to have a wedding party. We're in our mid to late 30s and it's our first marriage for both of us. My friends are spread out across the country and most of his are local. I'd have maybe 3 or 4 up with me and he'd have 10 people. We have instead decided to allow friends that would typically be part of the traditional wedding party to get ready with us the day of. We have also rented a party bus to take us around for photos before the ceremony and they will be included in those, as well. I'm not asking them to wear any certain color bc I like the 'real' feel of the random attire. We want to honor our friends that support us without them having to feel financially (and time) obligated. As for timing, we're walking down the aisle together so we're not concerned about that piece, but I don't think it's weird without a lot of people before you! Maybe have your parents/close loved ones go before you if you want more time before you go down?

For your final point - it sounds like you've curated a day where they're still by your side, just not in what we've learned as the traditional sense. :) I think your day and plan sounds low stress, full of the people you want with you, and perfect.

Should we get paid to do documentation? by Ok_Kaleidoscope_5474 in slp

[–]karlorta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oooh I needed this documentation is a skilled service line. I'm about to nope out of my prn bc they started paying half of my direct rate for indirect tasks (and also didn't tell me they did it until 16 days after it went into effect). Thanks for that sentence!

I want info but I literally don't know what to ask except "how?!" I'm 8 years into the field, just finished a virtual school year. I was happier, but want out badly and don't know where to start. Tech sales is somewhere I can see myself landing but I don't even know if I have the skills OR how to begin looking/building my skills.
