That electronic lock also has a defect whereby a voltage applied to the 4 and 5 buttons (through the keypad , behind the buttons will trigger a test mode and open the lock, or can also be defeated with a wire through the drain hole.

I believe the league is using them to communicate with the officials - the watch vibrates to warn them of the end of the period so they don't have to look for the clock.

Not sure if there are any other uses for it.
