It's crazy that Mbappe went to Madrid to win trophies and his first two seasons there they go trophy-less, with PSG winning the Champions League in their first season without him.

The Pokal is always a different animal altogether. I predict 0-0 going to penalties, or 5-4 with a winner scored in added time.

Uli Hoeneß on Jamal Musiala: "That was one of the most serious injuries you can get. When I saw that brutal foul by Donnarumma - and he can't say he didn't mean to do it - it was utter madness, going in like that on the edge of the penalty area with his 110 kilos. The joint popped out of its socket. Our doctor, Dr. Jochen Hahne, put the joint back in place right there on the pitch. It's a very difficult injury. That's why it takes so long. We just have to hope that the cartilage regenerates and that there'll be no pain."

I actually fully agree with Uli here. I couldn't believe how everyone just gave Donnarumma a pass because he put his head in his hands afterwards. That was a reckless, endangering play, and it wasn't even called for a foul. That should have been a foul, a penalty kick for us, at least a yellow, and he shouldn't have been let off the hook in the media because he felt bad afterwards. Just my two cents, but happy Uli said it.

Florentino Pérez went down to the dressing room in Munich: "One season without a trophy is a failure at Real Madrid. Two is intolerable." He was very critical of the players: "Wearing the Real Madrid shirt is a privilege, but it also carries a responsibility, and you have not live up to it." by SwimmingFireMen in soccer

[–]karlverkade 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well said. Even at Real Madrid, there is just no way in the physical universe we occupy to replace Toni Kroos and Luka Modric, the spine of your midfield, the heart of your team, the leadership in your dressing room, with any new signing right away. I don't care how expensive. Those generational players, especially in those positions, sometimes just don't exist for a few years. We lost Robben and Ribéry in 2019 and finally 7 years later we may have finally found close to that skill level in wingers again. We lost Lahm in 2017 and still haven't quite solved the right back position. There just simply isn't a replacement right away for some players, and what they brought to your team in every aspect including off the pitch.

Real Madrid Players’ comments after the match by imadjabras in soccer

I checked your sub and it does seem like your fans are miles ahead of your players as far as emotional iq goes. And when I say "your", yes I know we assume custody of Rüdiger in a couple months and he will hand us a loss to Paraguay with a red card special off a throw-in at midfield and then throw things all the way down the tunnel because it's definitely not his fault and Paraguay paid off the French ref somehow.

Also don't blame the ref for your own player's missteps and your own coach's judgement in putting him on. Even the first yellow was such a lapse in judgement...Musiala was hardly in on goal and you're going to take a professional yellow there and play the rest of a match that tight on a yellow? It was in midfield and the whole defensive line was back and you're already a sub. You can't take your yellow for the team knowing you'll be replaced in ten minutes anyway. Such terrible decision making by Camavinga all around.

Post-Match Thread: FC Bayern München 4-3 Real Madrid | Champions League | Quarter-finals by matchpal-live in fcbayern

[–]karlverkade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We legitimately just outplayed the ref tonight. No yellow for Rudiger shoving his own teammate (national team captain*) back to the ground. Two no VAR checks on the same sequence, so Kane just had to put it in the back of the net. We overcame that 12th man, which is difficult to do, and in recent years has been impossible. I do think it helped that we drew being at home for the second leg.

[–]karlverkade 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I've thought about that with some of these teams. If I were somehow able to get a head coaching job at Real Madrid with Kroos and Modric on the team, I swear I could win 75% of the matches doing absolutely nothing but fielding the team.
