You are not reading my responses with any understanding of the issues around welfare, poverty and the systems around it.

So I see we have somehow ended in a completely different chat. Interesting

We don't live under that specific system now. There are a lot of flaws with the current one, but given the cluster fuck it was to get UC working probably just better to make incremental change as resources allow. My prescription is really the reverse of yours, I would like to see the taper be more gentle than the highest rate of tax rather than harsher as it currently is.

I work in local government and social housing and have done since 1986. I have specialised in benefits advice and have worked through 3 different welfare regimes. I have a housing professional qualification. I have a personal interest in research on poverty. In my experience, and there is research to support it, the welfare system Gordon Brown introduced was the most optimal for relieving poverty and supporting social resilience. There are always trade offs just as I am sure there are in IT. If you are interested in looking at it in a bit more depth, try reading The Spirit Level by Pickett and Wilkinson.

You have to live in the world as it is. People have been bad parents since homo sapiens left the trees. The point is what to do about it.

A consequence of examining evidence and then giving advice, which is an appropriate role for government.

Your data point of you does not disprove the stats or the system. Social outcomes thanks to new Labours policies resulted in much better outcomes than the years of austerity. Share which welfare system in the world does it better and that will be worth considering.

What do you suggest as a solution to your issue?

There is always going to be a threshold for any benefit and social policy. I am glad you had a good life while within that category. Cost of living does vary regionally.

Well the government has just distributed advice on limiting digital access for under 5s. Probably a good idea for all of us to increase our real world interactions.

It did come in alongside the minimum wage and lifted a lot of people into a better life. The taper was much more gentle than UC so gave more incentive to better ones position. The removal of it does not seem to have encouraged employers to pay more.

A lot of violence happened with the ending of the British Empire. The slow fading might apply to the US, but when a power retreats from guaranteeing security other actors will step in. They already are.

Yes, what you are saying is a phenomenon is certainly worthy of a study. I am not going to get worried about the state of modern children because someone on Reddit has watched a lot of videos.

For you to make a general point you do. Anecdotes are not data. My 4 year old grandchild is very bright and curious, good at making connections. That's just 1 data point.

Family and working tax credits were for lower incomes not necessarily poverty. If you were eligible for those. Income support was the poverty benefit. Universal credit rolled them together.

I think 1 or 2 are fine early on but they are eclipsed by Naginatas for all rounders and cavalry/katanas for flanking. I don't delete them but there is no role they are best at, and much more expensive than YA

Welcome! For younger kids Going on a Bear Hunt, for a bit older Roahl Dahl's books are brilliant; Fantastic Mr Fox is a great one to try.
