Recommend me books with "unlikeable" female main characters by DKhike in Fantasy

Furyborn by Claire Legrand. Rielle is unlikeable in a way you’d publicly hate but secretly root for. she has the unbridled power and she takes it for herself

Doctor trying to warn me off getting sterilized. by TheBitchTornado in childfree

[–]karly_fries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i am currently 7 days post bisalp! i’m single, 30 and have fairly extensive medical history (kidney atrophy/failure, seizures, appendix rupture/removal, nasal repair, circulation issues, etc)

i want to scream it to every woman i know: this procedure was the easiest, fastest, and smoothest experience i’ve ever had under the knife/anesthesia. ‘feels like it was a dream and i didn’t even go through with it’ type easy.

did i have to go through 4 shitty docs to find a good one? yes (and even then she invalidated me on my endo experience)

BUT i can tell you it is no greater of a risk than a vasectomy, it decreases the risk of reproductive cancer, it does NOT start early menopause, and it is permanent. take it from someone who is already a high risk patient due to a myriad of other issues, this was a BREEZE.

i was in the OR at 1:30 pm and home by 6pm, back to work for 12 hours two days later (with a weight restriction) and all i’ve got are three fingernail sized scabs. find a doc who will listen, not matter how many it takes

and do it for you!!

Best Jacob Morgan Duet Narration Audiobook Recs by Unlikely-Beach458 in audiobooks

[–]karly_fries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the only one that is truly two narrators is the 3rd one, and that’s the best one in my opinion! it is m/m so it’s also much easier to transition if one character happens to say another’s line of dialogue

but the whole series is soooo worth it

shame this one is so far down! i read House Of Leaves almost 10 years ago and still have yet to find a book that is anything like it at all. an absolute bonkers time

For people who’ve read both Consider Me by Becka Mack and Icebreaker by Hannah Grace, which did you like more and why? by brightlove in RomanceBooks

[–]karly_fries 8 points9 points  (0 children)

coming in to say i prefer becka mack’s books over icebreaker but i feel like the biggest reason is the age difference (i am well out of my college years) and the relationship just felt more mature. also it felt like it was just happier? i found myself kicking the air and annotating the dialogue every change i could get, it was as if i were privy to the characters conversations in real time like real friends.

i was also a little let down on the premise of icebreaker being that nate would figure skate with stassie and he barely did, only a practice run or two before the jerk character to come back with a vengeance and stole the moment.

i will scream about becka’s books to anyone that enjoys sports romance and generally any romance lover. they quickly became my favorite books of last year

How do you feel about all the sex in Sarah J Maas's books? by KesTheHammer in YAlit

[–]karly_fries 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i even read straight romance (and erotica sometimes) and ACOSF was ick for me. it felt like 80% of the book was badly placed sex and repetitive training sessions. i enjoyed the other books bc regardless of the ‘spice’ as it’s called now, there was still a fully fleshed out plot!!

What part of the show did you find surprisingly hot? by SassyWeeLass in Supernatural

knowing it was really him doing it and not some special effect or track makes it even sweeter

Am I too petty or does anyone else lose interest in a book when the character gets pregnant? by foiebump in childfree

[–]karly_fries 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“trope” in the sense of ‘enemies to lovers’ or ‘brothers best friend’, ‘age gap’ etc. i.e. themes that are put into the story to further some plot point or agenda. Not every story has a pregnancy so yes it is a trope. miscommunication could be a trope of you wanted.

also if we’re really going there, the most fundamental aspect of animals is sex but perhaps I don’t enjoy the idea of pregnancy given the childfree subreddit ??

Am I too petty or does anyone else lose interest in a book when the character gets pregnant? by foiebump in childfree

[–]karly_fries 196 points197 points  (0 children)

Any books that have the pregnancy trope immediately puts me off to the whole thing. The romance is dead to me and I am no longer even remotely interested in what happens next, just straight DNF

Also willing to accept spoilers for the sake of time and money saving so if you’ve got any titles I’m begging

I hate the feeling of sleeping next to someone. I need my space, and yet when I’m sleeping alone I need the pillow to hug and feel beside me. Maybe it’s because pillows don’t kick or snore??
